I think some of us needs to re-arranged the picks. At least the ones that put the mountain goats in front. After the news of the Blockhaus being omitted that means less oportunities for the mountaineers to cut time on the time trialers. My new picks are:

1- Leipheimer
2- Menchov
3- Basso
4- Sastre
5- Cunego
6-10 Di Luca, Simoni, Pellizoti, Soler, Scarponi

Others to break the Top ten: Garzelli, Arroyo, Serpa, Rogers, CVdV, Valjavec

I have to admit - I only picked him for the mountains but do we really know what Soler is capable of? He's crashed a lot in the past year but before that it seemed it was possible he could possibly take someone like Contador on GC with the right training and tactics in a race with a lot of mountains. I won't pick him for the win in this Giro though esp. now Blockhuas has gone, there is really only 1 or 2 stages with major mountaintop finishes.

Pity Barloworld didn't get selected for TDF - I like Hunter too.

Blockhaus is out??? Where did you hear this? I can't find this news anywhere.

Looks spot on to me. The climbers might as well go on a beach holiday.
My favourite race of the year and I'm losing all my interest.

It's as if the ASO announced on the eve of the race that they weren't climbing Ventoux, but stopping at Chalet Renard.

Blockhaus has been turned into a long Team TT.

Astana seems to be weak on rouleurs so there is still the chance the team can be shredded. I think Bruyneel is going to have to try to put riders into breaks on stages 14-16 and 19 to relieve pressure.

Which stage do you think that should be more considered than it is now? That is, which stage will provide us with a surprise or will unexpectedly shake the general classification?

My bet is stage 15, Forlì - Faenza, 161 km. It is not long, but it will all the time go up and down on twisty Apennines roads. The final climb of Monte Trebbio is quite steep in the first 4 km. From the top there are 24 km of twisty roads to Faenza.

The last almost 100 km are the same as in stage 10 of the 2003 Giro. Six years ago Gilberto Simoni attacked the main bunch on the penultimate climb to Monte Casale. He was able to keep 25 seconds on the chasers at the finish and take the Maglia Rosa that he would keep till the end of that Giro.

This year at Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali, a selected group of perhaps 9 riders crested the Trebbio climb together. Right after the KOM, José Serpa and Damiano Cunego attacked on the tricky descent and came to Faenza with a 20 second lead. Cunego won the stage (and eventually the whole race).

My only concern is that the day after is the Queen stage to Monte Petrano - will the GC contenders just save their legs?

Why does everyone keep putting VdV in the top ten. He's not aiming for a high GC and he even told everyone he won't burn himself up in the giro in order to save himself for the tour.

I hope I'm wrong btw.

"hearing" is alot different than "will be"

Just saw the official start list with the back numbers and noticed something strange. First of all there are alot of teams that have simply gone by alphabetical numbering and don't have a captain with the XX1 number.

But that's not the strange part. The weird things was the saxo Bank numbers. They seem to be completely random and not alphabetical at all. I don't think I've ever seen that. I'm guessing the official start list might have made a mistake somehow but otherwise it's a bit of a novelty.

What has happened with ISD's kit? It is a shocker. If there is any motivation to win your countries national championship, that would be it.

Seriously pay somebody a bit of money to design something half decent in the future.

dont see whats strange about that at all...

as for predictions... anyones thoughts on the young man Boasson Hagen
i got a funny inkling we may see a time trial performance from him... ive rated this guy since the Tour of Ireland in 2007, not for GT but think he may surprise a few people on the odd day..

I have seen a lot better teams kits myself and I just don't like the colours and on the front of the jersey, it looks like a head of one the robots from Transformers. Saxo Bank's, for mine, is something you can set your watch too.

Tyler Farrar would be a good bet for a sprint win IMO.
