Boonen is my favourite cobbled classics rider of all time but I have a hard time seeing him following Cancellara when he had a hard time to follow Ballan/Pozzatto in the Paterberg.

You could even consider adding Bretagne. For me the only no brainers in Flanders that should be on this list are GW, Omloop and E3. De Panne is overrated but at least has a top notch starting list, Dwars and Kuurne shouldn't be even close to getting on that list.

Boonen benefits from E3 being shitty back in the day and being uplifted.
Bettini suffers from you applying today's standards to yesterday's races and even then he doesn't see his Olympic title being counted.

But then again, Boonen was the better 1D rider of those two so point proven 🥳

Ps. I think the more interesting point is that 1) Pog and MVDP are the two current riders that really stand out in modern comparison (post 2000) and 2) no matter how much we like and support Wout he really isn’t up there. It’s sad that such a talent have had his career marred by bad luck
