I'm really not sure what to make of the performances of MVDP, Wout, and a few others over the last week. The easy (lazy?) argument to make is that MVDP is a bit worse and Wout a bit better than past seasons, but that just means Pog wins even more easily on Sunday. Remco could add a wrinkle but probably not a decisive one.

But part of me (the delusional part, maybe) is not so sure that we don't get a close race.

I'm split between two feelings...

1. The dude is cursed. The king of heartbreaks. Turn 10% of his 2nd and 3rd place finishes and Wout is an absolute legend of the sport.

2. What a freaking rider, what a raid today, WVA is brave, tough, just days ago he split the field to get that placing in MSR, Wout is amazing. He's the one who cracked Pog on the Montmartre climb, and Pogacar wanted that one. Only the greats can do that. Wout is a fantastic rider. Win or lose, he'll give it all, he's like us with successes, setbacks, doubt, and he always comes back.

Allez Wout!

I think Visma should try force a selection pre-Arenberg, or at least get Wout in a group ahead of the peloton there. His tentativeness there was a killer last year.

Seems more of a long distance specialist these days. Doesn't have the punch he had in the past but gets better as race goes on. Was also very impressive at Sanremo. I think Ronde with the bergs is just not for him.

Congratulations to Wout van Aert for a fantastic win! After all those places of honor, the crashes, the revalidations, the doubts, this is the best moment in his career. Beating Pogacar in a two men sprint in Roubaix... It doesn't get better than that! He's been rewarded for his tenacity. After fighting back again and again he finally takes that major win, and well deserved!
