as said before im happy with anyone who has old cycling videos, if they have a list to go via ioffer or something and pay for the cost of duplicating and postage, as i dont have much to trade in return..

our videos are the usual, sunday in hell, road to hell, greatest show on earth etc.. particularly interesting in anything where sean kelly gets muddy..

(ooh. that sounds a bit kinky.. its not meant to be,. :O)

Okay folks. If you PM'd me, or posted here, check your inbox. I tried to send each of you a personal note on how to contact me and other info. If I skipped you, PM me with your e-mail address and I'd be happy to get the info to you.

Needless to say, as I dug through more boxes in the basement, I came across quite a few more tapes than I originally listed. Many of them older, or poorly marked. It's taken me a while to sift through all this, and painstaking to get them all copied to DVD. But I'm getting there.

:)

if you get them to dvd first i would then just rip them to mpegs or divx x on your pc.. much easier then to just burn mpegs onto a disc as files than burn endless dvd's it takes forever..

everyone has a pc and is perfectly capable of then making a dvd themselves, and most new dvd players can play mpg or divx anyway.. and if not you can pick up a divx/mpg player for about £30 in the uk..

we dont both doing anything as dvd anymore.. we can burn about 9 hours onto a disc as mpeg in minutes..

I've got dvd quality of 1989, 1991, 1992 TdF's (abt 1.5hrs each - cycling weekly version). And electronic (divx copies) of 85, 86, 87 TdF's from CBS version.

Willing to swap for 1988, 1990, 94 or 95 TdF's (espec. 1990) and 1988 Paris-Roubaix won by Dirk Demol.

I have the 1995 Paris-Roubaix, and can make you a DVD. Yes, it is very hard to find, long ago out of print. I will send you a PM. The 1992 LBL I do not have. Sorry.

Armstrong Tour de Suisse

Does anybody have a copy of the (I think) 2001 Tour de Suisse which Amtsrong won? I used to have it in VHS but I sold it a few years back. Please let me know! Thanks!

(Post here or PM me!)

Yes, I would never consider anything currently for sale, or off recent TV. Almost everything in my vault is 10-15 years old, some over 20 years old.

I've decided also that what money I do make from this, I'll spend on something at WCP, like calendars or gifts or something. Even though they won't re-master these old events on DVD, this is my way of thanking them for at least doing them to VHS in the first place, many of when they were still Famous Cycling Videos. My DVDs should be Region 0 (region free), and NTSC, which should play fine on any computer in the world, but not on many PAL DVD players.

I should have the list better solidified in the next few days and start making copies. Think I'll use iOffer to sell, and YouTube for previews. Here's a glimpse:

1994 Giro d'Italia

Thanks for sharing the youtube page, it is great to see some of the short clips you provided!

old cycling videos

Hi,
I would also be interested in exchaging old videos, I have a list of about 400 races from the early 80's through to present day. Email me at:
bear2808@live.com.au to exchange lists. An example I have 1985 Kelloggs Criterium Series, 1988 Tour of Lombardy, 1997 Tour of Spain, All of the 1987 Tour de France from channel 4 except week 3 which my sister taped over. I am trying to build a collection of the older races before they are lost.

if youve got stuff you want to share, and other races you want, have a look at http://cyclingtorrents.nl/
new site, but a lot of stuff there already, people sharing what they have with others....

good rules on seeding as well, they dont allow just leeching and ******ing off...

I haven't spent much time with DIVX, but will look into it. I guess I'm old fashioned, and like having a DVD I can put into the player and watch on the TV.

Thanks Mig, I'll send you a PM. :)

just a lot easier.. to burn a dvd takes ages, much quicker and easier for you to supply them as mpegs or divx.. (knowing how long it takes to burn a dvd it really is time consuming, you will end up with your life glued to the computer..) the mpeg/avi/divx route really is quicker...
couple of good free rippers
dvdshrink http://dvdshrink.org/what.html
handbrake http://handbrake.fr/

i would...

copy the video to dvd
then rip the dvd as mpeg
then just chuck the mpegs on disc as data....

advantages:
1) a million times quicker
2) you can fit much more on a disc, you are looking at about 700mb an hour, so you can fit 4-5 hours on one disc
3) everyone here is perfectly capable of burning a dvd...

personally, i prefer things as mpeg or divx, i find dvd's space consuming, and i tend to rip everything to hard drive anyway, and just keep it all on there (we have direct link between the laptop and the tv anyway)...

secondly, how would you feel about what you have being shared on cyclingtorrents so people can download it via bittorrent.. i am happy to arrange it being put up if you dont have the bandwidth etc, but how do you feel, they are your recordings after all..

Thanks - I've never been able to find/buy videos/DVDs of old races, apart from YouTube (It's sad that the most I've seen of Pantani, VDB and more in 5 minute videos on that). I'm really envious of all you guys (Alpe) with the amount of races you have on tape :(
