Well a majority of the US voters for starters.

Far from the truth. I read 50% of registered voters did elect a presidential candidat. Just above 50% of those voted for Obama (the reasons they fell a 2nd time for him is wayyy beyond me). That is circa 25% of the voters. A majority would be 50+ %...

OK, back to Olga: All this doesn´t make his tweet in any way better...

Maybe cuz Mitt is an idiot?

I read an article on Velonews concerning a Tweet by Oleg Tinkov where he referred to President Obama as "monkeyobama". I already have a strong dislike for Tinkov, but this kind of talk should have no place in professional cycling. After the long, ugly struggle with race in the United States having an African American president is a big deal. Racist comments like the one made by Tinkov are a spit in the face to history and all of the people who struggled and sacrificed for the progress that has been made on civil rights in the U.S.

What should the response be from the UCI and should a penalty be issued?

i thought America was for free speech?

Slavery has been a problem that is worldwide not just limited to one country, the issue is many countries have moved out of the dark ages, Russia still seem to be there. The attitude towards people they believe to be different is appalling. Funnily enough their beloved neighbours Ukraine aren't far ahead of them on the racism count.

Besides I really dislike Obama (I mean who is not disgusted by this liar)... Olga again went too far. As usual. She must be thrown out of cycling. She is a shame... More than any past and present dopers...
Please keep your political garbage in the appropriate forum.

Sure. He can say such things. We're not stopping him. We just think he's a bigoted idiot for saying it, and shouldn't be allowed to play ball on our block, so to speak.

A good comparison might be Hulk Hogan and his racist comments about the black kid dating his daughter. He can say it all he wants, but the WWE doesn't have to put up with it, and promptly fired him.

You show your objection to racism by using feminine names and pronouns as though that constituted a valid criticism or insult. You make yourself as bad as Tinkoff by doing that.

Yes, the hypocrisy is choice. Tinkov is a very rich idiot, but feminizing him is simply childish.

foxxy can speak for himself, but perhaps he meant this tinkoff tweet

https://twitter.com/olegtinkov/status/527886785859571712

as to his exchange with jv, my opinion after reading the original in the velonews is that both tried to be witty insulting each others presidents and both came out stupid, imo...

tinkoff a bigoted stupid and jv a cutie stupid. there isn't much more to this story imo - both use any media to grab attention including by stupid and controversial statements if needed.

i dont like tinkoff, never did, and therefore spared myself from indignant reactions reading another of his pearls.

interesting...i am trying to sort out some judgements expressed just above. i will not mention names (as they are easy enough to reconstruct) nor will i express my own opinions, again, b/c my goal is examining certain gender and racial statements.

rehashing some posts above, foxxy was being criticized for feminizing tinkoff. moreover, he(foxxy)/his position was compared to the obviously racist remark by tinkoff. plus, foxxy's position was called hypocritical..
You make yourself as bad as Tinkoff by doing that
.

if we go back to the original velonews article, what jv did was EXACTLY what some posters did not like about foxxy's written remarks, except jv placed 3 images that essentially feminized tinkoff's president oleg took an issue with. i would agree, that the jv tweet was more subtle than the oleg crude racial stupidity, but in essence, jv did what many did not like about the foxxy's gender remark. still, i did not read any indignation about about feminizing by jv...)
if feminizing a man was equated to an obviously stupid racist remark, (as i quoted a poster herein) WHY the jv remark (i called earlier a cutie stupid) wasn't criticized as the foxxy's comment was(i dont really care for, personally)

was this a case of hypocrisy, a case for a selective application of certain gender and racist criteria ?

i will consider responding to reasonable, balanced opinions.

Re:

Seeing ghosts to have something (totally irrelevant to all our lives) to get annoyed about?

The Olga joke started during the Giro (btw, it wasn´t my invention, that hounour belongs to someone else). It became a running gag by some. May I prolonged it too much. But, so what?

Btw, didn´t even know he is gay. And I really don´t care... Cool down guys. There are enough real problems in this world to be annoyed about. Not to be political correct is none of them.

I sure hope he wasn't referencing that tweet. Being gay has zilch to do with identifying as female.

JV may be childish, but he managed not to make any racist remarks.

Google 'gulag'..as for free speech here, unless it endangers somebody else(yelling fire in a theater is the most common example), you can stand on a corner and say any stupid thing you want and no black shirt guys will haul you away..What country are you in?

I respect Tinkov more than those cowed by political correctness.

Calling Obama a monkey is nothing more than an example of this boorish, ignorant, oligarch who, because of his $, is thrust into the international scene. He is more comfy among other's like him, in Russia. I'm sure he is a fan of his boy putin, who probably stands each morning at his $zillion estate and sings the Soviet National Anthem.
