Men’s keirin: Hoy

Women’s team sprint: Australia

Each of the team events will come down to the wire, but I think GB gets em.

Bauge and Meares to break the stranglehold team GB will put on the Velodrome.

Hope Kenny goes for a long one twice on Bauge if it is the Final... Only way to Beat the Guy I reckon.

How comes you guys are going for Vicky in the keirin? I would love her to win but she has not really shown much form in it recently compared to Meares. Do you know something I don't?

those are the boring, predictable events. and who cares about an omnium? except the cat IV riders that are doing it.
who is going to win the Madison? the Kilo? the Individual Pursuit? the Points race? this is where the drama is, oh wait, the IOC got rid of all those events.
I can't wait to see who wins the BMX 'kiddie' race.... lol

Why is that atheletes that win the decathlon are called the greatest but omnium riders are just jack of all trades?

Actually the Omnium contains the Elimination race which is always great to watch as well as its own Points and Scratch races.

Yes, it is a crime that so many events have been removed from the Olympic programme but that is another thread.

I should also add that I find none of the existing events boring. Far from it. There is an argument to be made that some of the results are predicable but watching Hoy win the last WC in the keirin was one of the best moments I have seen in track cycling.

ya, Keirin is def not boring, and my 'boring' comment was relative to the events missing, I don't find any track race boring, I will eagerly watch them all, but my point was that they took out the most exciting races.
I am aware of the events that make up the omnium and I love miss n out's, win n out's, etc..., but why have any race in an Olympics that doesn't have the best riders in the world competing in it? (hence my cat IV sarcastic comment) the omnium is a jack of all trades, master of none event that is fine for begining track riders and small local events, but no way should be in the Olympics.
and just really ****ed that they took out my fav event in the whole olympics, summer or winter, the Madison. thankfully it is still included in the World Championships

I have never understood that about the decathlon, ya Bruce Jenner is the greatest athlete in the world, lolol. don't track & field athletes view the decathlon as a cop out for guys that can't win an event, but can place?

Home crowd motivation. Wont get her the Sprint but may just get her the Keirin.

Team Sprint Draw (5 heats) - Women GB v Australia
China v Germany
France v Netherlands

Men GB v Germany.
France v Australia

Looks tough, until you realize that there are only 10 teams to start, with 8 teams to qualify.
Some very "ordinary" teams appear to be riding, too.
Nice one Useless Criminals In charge.

I've gone for Pendleton in the Keirin because I just have a feeling she is going to win one of the three events.
Interestingly very few of these events have overwhelming favourites: I reckon just three - women's team sprint and pursuit, and men's sprint. Meares also a strong favourite in the sprint but not as dominant as the others.

Wow. GB world record on women's sprint qualification.
Edit: And China go faster again - Aus in 3rd
Edit: Actually 4th - Germany 3rd

Boardman was explaining this.
Mechanical problem is an automatic restart. Rider error is not.
The earlier team where the rider's foot came off the pedal, they were saying that judges are more lenient now as that would not have been a restart previously.
GB seems to have been a mechanical - looked like steering

ok track noob question here (slowly getting into this sport):
whats that boxy thing the lower placed rider started out of in the team sprints called? and what is it for?

It's simply a "gate" I think.

It's to hold them upright and then release them at the exact start time (unlike a road TT, the tenths/hundreths involved in a human releasing them would be too significant).

thanks ferminal!
I have to say this is really an exciting sport, still getting the hang of the rules and whatnot. I started getting into it when the stream I wanted to watch Paris Roubaix on showed the Madison WC instead...

Great Britain have been eliminated from the women's team sprint because of an illegal changeover.
