Tom Boonen surprisingly has never won Het Volk (hell will have to freeze over before I call it Het Nieuwsblad), and I know he wants to win, and Gilbert wants to win his 3rd Het as well. I have the DVD from 2008 when Gilbert attacked with 50km to go and Nuyens started to follow, but sat up, and Gilbert bridged up to the break away, rode in the break and then attacked and stayed away for the win.

Dope or no dope, it was one impressive performance eitherway.

"Mr. Het Volk" Peter Van Petegem would never allow us to call this race Het Nieuwsblad so I concur with your assessment.

Hooray for a new non AC/Radiocrap thread, beat me to it Dim.

I am due to fly into Belgium on Friday, make my way to Gerardsbergen on Saturday, watch the race pass on the Muur and then make my way to the nearest bar to watch the rest of the race on the TV and sample the many fine Belgian beers. Maybe even head to Kortijk on Sunday for K-B-K. Anybody jealous:rolleyes:

I want to see a repeat of Giblerts amazing performance from 08, that was something to behold.

i hate you!!!!!!

kidding. im off to geraardsburgen for flanders (doing the sportive day before, staying in a hotel just off square by train station) cant wait!

gilberts ride in 2008 was awesome, i rider i truly believe in, love watching and would never tire of seeing him attack.

think it could be quite tactical, the bergs dont seem quite as intense as the ronde

Im jealous of both of you... although if either of you get any decent pics of the sky boys can you get in touch for the website..

Im just hoping that the internet is working properly on saturday and sunday.. :/ too many races, too little tv coverage..

Personally, my main hope is that Russ Downing can finish both races. Great after all these years to see him get a chance, even if it was at Arversens expense :(

I will try for a few photos if I remember to bring my camera(forgot it the last time I went on holiday) I dont think it will be split up much on the Muur but if Sky are leading the charge up the Muur, then sure.

Enjoy, make sure you take in the museum in Oudernade as well if you can. Done the short route cyclo a few years ago, ****ed rain all day but was fantastic, especially the Muur.

I can't wait - so looking forward to the spring classics. Picks - Gilbert for the breakaway; Boonen if it comes down to a bunch sprint; and Robbie McEwen as my sentimental favourite and dark horse.

Haussler, EBH and Boonen seem obvious picks for Het Whatever. After his big effort in the cold in Algarve, I'd rate Rosseler with a chance. Jurgen Roelandts for that matter, too.

I'm wondering if new mood lighting and extra hair gel will help Sky get EBH on top.

edit:

Didn't know if this is the 'pick the podium' contest thread. But here goes:

1. Wouter Weylandt
2. Jurgen Roelandts
3. Nick Nuyens

Not sure if Haussler is riding, He is having troubles with his knee.

Gilbert is my pick.

I'm jealous of all three of you. The best chance I have at seeing live racing is the Tour of California. :(

Btw, I'm picking AC for the win! :D:D

It pains me to say it but Dim has got it right EbH has got my vote as he is in good form but I notices that Ballan look in very good form as well.

I have some nice shots of the sky boys for you dim and there super hot bikes!!! For sure the Sky boys were far and a way the most approachable guys on the tour.

Typical:rolleyes::D, hey the only race I can see live is the Worlds this year. the next closest pro race which happens annually is an 800km (9 -10hours) drive away to Adelaide. Grrrrrr:mad:

I think I will tip Ebh. he has some very strong form at the moment.

St Elia, I personally think that burghardt has better form than ballan. 5th in qatar and 8th in Oman. Also had a reasonable tt for burghardt at oman.
