Hope the flash ticker thing works on Sporza, it's pretty good for keeping track of the groups on the road.

Podium Cafe's server is undergoing maintenance. What unbelieveably poor timing.

Looks like streams may start 14:05 local time...

It says a lot about how long cycling fans on the forum have been waiting for the "real" or european season to start when there is around 215 posts before the race had commenced.:p

Don't bait the Belgians on their big day.
It's more a case of classics fans vs. stage racing fans, I guess. I like stage races and hilly classics, so for me the Omloop isn't really highlighted on the calendar either. But I'll watch it, of course ;)

I completely agree, but the Hitch is clearly fishing and we're still out of season.

The peloton, which started without ears, now follows at 3'55''.

Now, that seems like they have taken the radio ban too far. Did they simply chop everyones ears off before the start?

You never know, with the 1st significant race with no radios you may see the peleton misjudge the chase even though that might be very unlikely it's more of a chance today.

With the slippery cobbles, I just hope that the crashes aren't too significant or damaging.

Earbuds in Dutch is "oortjes", literally: small ears.

I don't think so. I think it's more a Belgium/Netherlands thing, this has been for a long time the first race of the season broadcasted live on Belgium and Dutch channels, it feels like the start of the season because it is the start of the TV-season. For people from different countries that can't watch this race, it doesn't have more significance that for example the Tour du Haut Var or the Trofeo Laigueglia.

Well, I'm Dutch, so I guess I'm the exception to the rule.
