Nuyens could go for a Flanders-Amstel double if he's at his best, but I think Flèche and LBL are beyond him.

yeah my mindset was more at amstel to be honest, I always thought he could win in holland.

The Paris-Roubaix and Fleche double is a difficult one, Maybe Cancellara if he's going well or Flecha.

Nuyens could do the Flanders-Amstel double if he was a much better rider than he actually is. I'll grant that.

look at the post above: 1970, who else than Eddy Merckx
I mean currently active riders, of course.

Both of them can handle short steep climbs well for the type of rider they are, but against a bunch of Ardennes specialists they'll have a hard time winning on the Mur. I actually think the Nick Nuyens suggestion above isn't all that crazy.

Cannot think of any current riders that could win both Paris-Roubaix and Fleche. Its hard as so few guys actually attempt P-R. Fignon is the last guy who could win both, he won Fleche Wallone but think he was later disqualified for failed dope test. He was also competive in P-R but didnt have any luck. Dont think he came close to winning both in the same season though.

There are riders that can win both P-R & Fleche/LBL, but never in the same season. They'll face totally different oponents in each race who focus only on one of those races.

Gilbert can win RVV&Fleche

Agreed. I mean, he'd have to improve a whole one place in Flanders, and eight entire seconds in Amstel. Clearly, that's completely impossible.

- RVV 2008: second, 15 seconds behind Devolder
- Amstel 2009: eighth, 8 seconds behind Ivanov ('bunch sprint' for third)

RVV, yes. But the Fleche... he'd have to take a headstart before reaching the Mur, or else I don't see how he'll follow some of the better climbers.
Agreed, he'll have to attack earlier to have any chance.
RVV&Gold race are the most realistic spring classics to win for Gilbert.
