Kwiatkowski was 11 seconds ahead of Bernal this morning, took 4 more seconds off him in today,and is now shown as having a 19 second margin.

I thought time bonuses on a time trial were an absolute no no, but the normal 10-6-4 'bonifications' would account for that.

I noticed the same, he has 4 seconds more than he should have on everyone.

It seems that this has also happened to Simon Yates. That must be a mistake, surely.

Actually, on the official site, Kwiatkowski only leads by 15 seconds. I haven't been there before, so I don't know if they screwed up initially or if it's just PCS.

Weird. On the official website bonuses 10-6-4 are shown for Yates-Politt-Kwiato, while in the race regulations it is clearly stated that these bonuses are granted in case of 7 etapes en ligne only.

Edit: they have just changed it on the website, it is 15 seconds now.

The riders are not lucky this year. Tomorrow will be more windy than it was earlier in the week. Wind direction: Changing but lots of cross-wind sections. Whether the terrain is as open as earlier in the week is yet to be seen.

Yes, although an Egan Bernal who can finish close up in a largely flat time trial is an even more scary prospect.

It think it's safe to say that Bernal will top 10 all of the 3 Giro time trials.

Also the last one which is both shorter and has a harder climb than this one in Paris-Nice.

I would gladly take that bet (that he won't top 10 in all 3) and I'm not a betting man. You realize there are always plenty of TT/prologue specialists with fresh legs eager to do well in the first TT of the Giro or Tour? For the final one, you'd be right on target though.

I'm excited to see how well Bernal is performing, but do we always need to extrapolate efforts in mid-March to late-May (Giro) or mid-July (Tour). After all, how has Porte's cruising to wins here panned out?

Well, they can have as fresh legs as they want, but that will not help them much on the San Luca climb.

The small difference between Jungels's and Chaves's times leads me to believe this TT wasn't really indicative of actual ITT prowess by many of the riders. I do think Yates has become a competent ITTer, just not good enough to win an ITT like this one under normal circumstances.

My guess is Bernal won't have to work for Kwiat, but also won't be allowed to attack just follow attacks, which he is more than capable of doing.

Paris-Nice 2019 Friday's stage 6: Peynier - Brignoles 176.5 km

At 176.5 kilometres, the 6th stage in Paris-Nice is played out on a rolling route with a more hilly profile in the second half. Sprinters or attackers?

The race from Peynier to Brignoles could offer the sprinters another chance, but possibly with not all of them still on board in the finale. Following 100 kilometres on undulating roads the route becomes more lumpy in the last part.

Côte de la Sainte-Baume, a 5 kilometres climb at 5%, is crested 60 kilometres before the line. The race then continues to lesser hurdles. Côte de Mazaugues would make a fine finale with its 1.3 kilometres at 6.3%, while the last climb of the day is Côte de Sainte-Philomène. The route reaches this summit after a 8 kilometres climb at 3.5% and with 17.5 kilometres remaining.

So it’s either the sprinters or stage 6 of Paris-Nice could see the breakaway find success.

The first three riders on the line win time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while two intermediate sprints (at kilometre 146.5 and kilometre 172.5) come with 3, 2 and 1 seconds. Note: the last bonus sprint is 4 kilometres before the finish line!

The 6th stage of Paris-Nice starts at 12:05 and the expected finish is around 16:30 – both are local times.

I think this TT is hardly useable as a reference for what's to come. Simon rode in different circumstances than most of the big engines. That won't happen in the Giro.

Agree - the stage 9 ITT at the Giro will be interesting as all will have 8 stages in their legs, but Yates (S) has been improving his TT-ing. The last day ITT might though be his downfall.

Strange results. Riders are all over the place. I can't figure out what kind of ITT course it was. From results it sure doesn't look like one for the specialists. But then again the winner had over 50kph on average. Then you look at the top two spots and see S.Yates with Politt and you still don't have a clue :lol: :lol:

Anyway fantastic win for Simon. Great test for him and Bernal before the Giro's ITTs.

Friday's stage seems to be into a strong headwind the last 25 km, before then, it will be "interesting".
