Fewer helpers should mean a more tactical ascent. That seems like an obviously good scenario for them.

Doubt a tactical final matters when you only have Martinez with descent legs. Sivakov looked horrible few days ago.

Gaudu was also the only FdJ rider with good legs the other day, but a tactical ascent still benefited him.

Skjelmose is not fine...
But from what I understand, he's got a bike, and is still in the race.

Nevermind, he's out...

So far the team profiting seems to be Groupama. It's interesting how some teams always feel responsible or important enough (like Ineos) to do their thing, independent from the situation, while others behave / are treated like they aren't even relevant for the race.

For all the hype he’s received since he signed with Ineos, Martinez has yet to really live up to expectations. I think more was expected than your random 1 week GC rider who occasionally can pull off a win in the Basque Country

So he should have delivered more in GTs?

He was clearly ill in the Tour last year, and I think he did quite fine in the Giro in 2021.

A lot of the hype has also been based on how he rode in support of Bernal in the 2021 Giro.
His results in non-GT races haven't been very bad afterwards, but he obviously needs to step up if he wants to be a challenger in the Tour this year.
