If he thinks there are 10 km left, and stops with 10 km to go, thus getting caught, that would be bad.

If he thinks there are 30 km left, and continues for another 10 km efter the finish, that would be... a bit weird.

He did continue all the way to the finish in the Vuelta when he attacked earlier than he thought, so he will probably do the same today.

Vingegaard showing the youngsters like Toro and Seixas that the throne is still far away from them
This is something obvious tbh. Vingegaard is so underrated. Seriously, he's the second best GC rider I ever witness in my life and by a long margin.

Vingegaard is experiencing the same advantage Pogi always has when he attacks so early, which is that the group behind him doesn't cooperate so the difference in level appears bigger than it actually is.

VPP and Martinez role-playing Contador and Chicken. The race is suffering from a severe lack of Ayuso today.

Indeed. If you see the field in group 2, you would think that this is some .Pro race and ask yourself "What the **** Vingegaard is doing here".
It's not like Ayuso would have been able to follow Vingegaard here. He probably would have been in that group as well. And then suddenly it's a big name group...

Whatever is true of the opposition, this is probably Vingegaard's most empathic win since his 2024 Itzulia crash and he can and should take heart from that. It might be too early to give up on him challenging Pogacar yet...
Not this year with the Giro in his legs
