Given that Vingegaard is aiming for the double, I think his shape should be rather low here, so I think it's a toss up between him and Ayuso. Onley might be in the mix too.
I would be rather surprised and impressed if Vingegaard wins convincingly here.

Speaking of typical Paris-Nice weather: the forecast for the weekend looks pretty rough. Cold and wet lower down, snow higher up, and odds are it will be the latter for Auron. So they will probably have to change the route once again - hopefully they have a plan B MTF like Madone d'Utelle in 2024...

In the pre-stage interview, Barta also just said that Saturday's stage could be changed or cancelled, so the riders seem to be aware of it.

Today, there's also a chance of early echelons mentioned in the interviews.

i dont think they will cancel auron

with the route this year there are no descents with freezing weather and they were fine with an uphill finish in the snow last year

i think the problem two years ago was how to get there moreso than the finish

Last year, they pulled the main mid-stage climb because of the weather. Had the weather been good enough in 2024 to do the same and keep the finish in Auron, surely they would have done so?

In any case, it's quite obvious that Auron is too alpine in climate for an early March race and I hope that ASO finally see this too.

i dont know but i imagine they were better prepared for such a contingency last year whereas two years ago they stuck with the original route until the foot of the new finish

Whats happening? PCS shows the peloton split in multiple groups. Someone must be forcing the split in the rain

Yeah, multiple splits because of the weather.

C Rod dropped, but no GC threat this race.

Vaquelin also behind in third group and it says now that Lenny is also gone from peloton.

Ineos riding in group 1 is a bit weird given Vauquelin is distanced, unless Onley is their main man here

but good weather for a classics guy to win today. Once it slows down halfway through the stage, they'll go off the right with no one left to chase behind.

Good weather for a UNO X guy to win...

Looks like they were also one of the teams responsible for the split, most riders of their team in first group, maybe even all

The only real GC riders that seems to have missed the boat are Vauqelin and Lenny Martinez, or am I missing someone?

More than a minute now, I think it's over for anyone not in G1.

So...

Ayuso
Vingegaard
McNulty
Gaudu
Martinez
Onley
Romeo
Leknessund
Traeen
Steinhauser

for GC?

Probably missing 1 or 2.
