The 5'th stage last km. It looks like 500m with almost 10% average gradient.

I can't agree with that. There have to be real mountains...otherwise it goes against the nature of especially Paris-Nice. A prestigeous 1 week race like T-A or P-N should be won be a either by a GT specialist (either pure climber or TT specialist with good climbing abilities) or a type of rider that climbs strong enough to win 1 week races.

For what you desire....for that we have Pais Vasco or Cataluna. That's their nature. Every race has its own history.

Catalunya has historically been a much more typical mountainous race than PN or TA. Before 2010 it was held in may or june and was a important preperation race for TDF. They have often used MTFs in Andorra.

PN on the other hand have few high MTF. More typically they have used Mont Faron, Mende or the climbs around Nice. Climbs of 15 km and 1000 height meters have rarely been used. The same applies for TA.

More like 7-8%. Finish at 192 m and 500 m before it's ~ 155 m. 35- 40 m height gain.

Yep, it would suit guys like Gallopin and other fast punchers if the job has been done previously to get rid of the Degenkolbs, Bouhannis and others.

I have to disagree, Dauphin? or Tour de Suisse always have been mini GTs with mountain stages, not Paris Nice. Paris Nice is a hilly one week race with sometimes some mountain, sometimes not. How do you think Sean Kelly won it many times ?

I didn't mean it has to feature 15 km climbs like in a GT. But the route has to be hard enough. That means 3-8 km climbs, but not those 4-5% climbs. Hard medium mountain stages.

Agreed. And that was what I wrote in the first place. Climbs like Mont Faron with 5 km, 9 % or Mende with 3 km, 10 % rather than 15+ km long climbs to Montagne de Lure or Terminillo.

A stage like in the Vosges last year (PdBF) would be a great queen stage for Paris Nice.

The PdBF stage the tour de France had last year would be by very very far the most mountainous stage ever in Paris Nice...

I'm sorry. My soul is possessed by Angelo Zomegnan. :p

I can understand, like everybody else I like when there is movement and selection in the big races. But Paris Nice has never been mountain heavy. To me the key to making a race like Paris Nice more unpredictable isn't in changing the route that much (this year's route is classic but okay) but rather in having teams of 6 which would find it harder to controle the race. Last year's route with teams of 6 would have seen more movement, not just AG2R controling each stage till the last hill.

Low interest for the race.
Should be entertaining battle between the lieutenants of the Tirreno captains.

Riders who are good but usually somewhat peripheral fighting it out for a prestigious race usually provides solid entertainment. Obviously, it's hard to compete in terms of interest levels with a race that for some reason has a cast that actually rivals the Tour de France, but I think it will be a good race.
