yesterday he was part of the train for Goss again, usually a very bad sign in regards of overall-ambitions.

it was the same at Algarve for Degenkolb...

There are two uphill finishes where SS can put time to lulu as well and perhaps steal some bonus seconds. Lulu is better at flat sprinting...haven't really seen him excel in a uphill finish but I might be wrong.

Take the Montagne de Lure, in Paris-Nice 2009. It's not as steep as the Col de la Mur, but it's twice as long. LLS handily beat SamSan on that one. Paris-Nice is not really about pure climbing ability, more about suffering.

And it's a lot about form too. Evans was in the same group as SS. SS dropped out the next day.

It seems people are forgetting that Samu, aside from a GT contender, is primarily a hilly classics rider. Of course he'll do well in short, steep climbs.

Yes, but don't write Martin taking 30s to a minute out of him as a formality ;)

of course: that's valid for TT under 30km... over 30km it's going from 1 to 2 minutes :D

I don't really understand why Eurosport almost always starts going live only midway through the stage, it's not like there's usually anything better on (today there was coincidentally, but still...)

the internet streams are a couple of seconds behind standard eurosport, but interestingly about a half a second in front of eurosport hd.

k, I have convinced myself that there's no way Goss or Haussler will just slip back from the bunch. Even if they lose 15s at the top a strong team should be able to chase them (any escapists) down. The only sprinter who I think could miss out is Galimzyanov.

It has to do with the production at the race. They usually don't start producing any images before halfway through the stage. Or at least they're not producing a live feed. I don't even think the helicopter is up before halfway through the race. It would just cost a lot of money for something that no one is really interested in watching.

Harmon just said that Peter Sagan has five stitches in his hip. That puts his sprint performances over the past two days into a completely different context.

There are two rollers and ~40km until the Bécop, nothing much is gonna happen until then.

Liquigas team director Stefano Zanatta told http://www.cyclingnews.com that Peter Sagan was not a Paris-Nice contender this season after a crash in the Classica Sarda: "After the crash on Sunday, he got five stitches on his hip. He couldn’t train and lost five days of important work, that’s why he doesn’t have the condition to win the overall classification here at Paris-Nice... but if he comes up with a stage win, it’s enough."

Sicard (knee problems) and Pellizotti (CAS KO'd) bite the CQ dust in the space of half an hour.:(
