With Porte in the lead, who has great support, this stage is rendered useles. As was suggested before the race. Had Talansky still led the race, it could have been a battle on the Col de Ferrier, but now it will be just a fight to get in the right break to win the stage.

Edit: Very nice to have Tirreno tomorrow idd.

If the favorites stays together on this stage its game over.

So modern placement racing or will riders further down the GC go balls to the wall?
The best we can hope for, is that there is only 1 or 2 in the break, so that the GC riders will contest for 3rd in the last bonus sprint.

They didn't last year.

ah right, the De Gendt ride.

GC standing last year going into the long Nice stage:

GBR 1 WIGGINS, Bradley (SKY PROCYCLING) 22h 31' 52"
NED 2 WESTRA, Lieuwe (VACANSOLEIL-DCM) + 00' 06"
USA 3 LEIPHEIMER, Levi (OMEGA PHARMA-QUICKSTEP) + 00' 10"
ESP 4 VALVERDE BELMONTE, Alejandro (MOVISTAR) + 00' 18"
SLO 5 SPILAK, Simon (KATUSHA) + 00' 37"
USA 6 VAN GARDEREN, Tejay (BMC RACING) + 00' 39"
BEL 7 MONFORT, Maxime (RADIOSHACK-NISSAN) + 00' 46"
FRA 8 JEANNESSON, Arnold (FDJ-BIG MAT) + 01' 06"
FRA 9 CHAVANEL, Sylvain (OMEGA PHARMA-QUICKSTEP) + 01' 16"
CRO 10 KISERLOVSKI, Robert (ASTANA) + 01' 21"

Perhaps one could argue more teams would be interested in letting a small break go last year with the small gaps between first four in the GC versus this year.

Were there bonus secs on the line last year?

Never before has the Nice stage been so desecrated by such a profile. Let us hope such a travesty never occurs again.

It's like they panicked that they couldn't use Eze as the final climb. Awful.

Hoping that Voeckler, Taaramae, De Gendt and Gilbert go in the break... that would be the only thing that makes the stage good.

de gendt declared he'll work for westra and he's more interested in the MTT
