Ingebrigtsen moves on to the final, and Barshim had a good last jump in the qualifier, so he's done for today and he will have his leg looked at before the next round. Don't think we'll be seeing a repeat of him and Tamberi at the Tokyo Olympics this time around.

Men's 5000m qualifiers right now, a bunch of runners tripped and fell in one of the heats with only about 200m left to go because it was just too crowded. The heat running now which includes Ingebrigtsen isn't much smaller.

Also on tap is men's high jumping - fun to see Tamberi and Barshim competing against each other in the Olympics again!

Edit: and just as I posted this Barshim looks like he might have injured his leg, he's getting medics to look at him at any rate.:(
Gimbo has also had a pretty torrid preparation for the Olympics. Injured about a month ago, and then got kidney stones (and subsequent infection) a few days ago, so ended up with a high fever and in hospital. That said, there's still three days before the final, so I doubt even he knows what shape he'll be in on Saturday.

You have to remember that Germany was “playing nice” in how it acted and what it let the world see during the Olympics, with the idea of keeping England, France, and U.S. ambivalent (or with heads in sand) as they planned their coming invasions.
They didn't have to act up that much as the UK and the French teamed up with Hitler in 1938 to invade my country

Hocker! I was hoping that Hocker and Nugusee could stay close and battle for a medal, but I honestly didn't think that either of them would beat BOTH of the favorites. Great race!

Gabby T!

Elor is dominant (and only 20)!

In the men’s Handball quarterfinal France-Germany France had the ball coming out of the timeout with six seconds to go and actually managed to concede the tying goal.

Tough scene for @gunara and Indonesia in the speed climbing. Six thousandths of a second prevented an all-Indonesian semifinal and then they ended without a medal.

Sincerely, Samu
Yeah, it's hard to take. One thing also about speed climbing is that the competition tempo is so fast with no second chance, not even time to nurture some hope before it quickly turns into disappointment. One of our man's game was also over in a flash after one false start in a very winnable matchup.

Much appreciation for the symphaty, Brocco

And now, the graphic people don't find it necessary to show the time... Great choice.

They couldn‘t even get the time to run in the hall.

The German public TV commentator who also commentates Biathlon enlivened the commentary by calling the French goalie Vincent Defrasne multiple times.

Guess everything seems bigger when you're a child.
I like this water pit because it's decorated with flowers, if I was 5yrs. old again I'd think it was a perfectly fine place to swim. (Looks like one of the runners had the same idea because he's diving head first into the pit, guess nobody told him he was too big for it at his age. :()

Even our serial medalist (2 silver and 2 bronze since Beijing 2008) had no luck this time. Eko Yuli Irawan closed his career being safely in silver position after the snatch session at 61kg weightlifting, then got injured and scored no result at the clean and jerk.

Planned to enjoy this Olympic as a whole, then end up getting drawn with family, friends, and neighbours into this obsessive watch for Indonesian athletes in desperate search for an elusive medal. Exhausting😁

Men's volleyball semis on right now (US v. Poland), regular volleyball I like. But beach volleyball... I know it's been around for a while and it's very popular, but I just never cared for it no matter how much NBC has shown it in primetime throughout the years. Thankfully what's on right now is not beach volleyball.

Just turned on the skateboarding-park final, there's Tony Hawk banging the stick to kick things off and one of the contestants juggling. There were a couple of 50 year olds in the prelims but they didn't make the final 8, still an older bunch than the womens final where teenagers predominated though.

Everyone's fallen so far...
