Klaver is a 300m specialist. She relies so heavily on a fast start that when she can't get that since she was on a yellow card, she has nothing. Oh well, at least it means she won't get prevented from starting the relay since the Dutch sure as hell need her there...

What do you mean regarding the yellow card?

A false start will disqualify you whether you have a yellow card or not. I don't really see they have any relevance at all.

They were saying that two yellow cards will see you DQed from the Games, not just the race, so as she had a yellow from the semi final, if she had qualified and got another one in the final she wouldn't be eligible for the 4x400. Having had the yellow, she was more hesitant in the blocks and didn't get her usual explosive start in the semi anyway.

That sounds bizarre but if they are the rules, fair point.

Although, can't Femke just run all the four legs in the relay?

They probably would be better off if she did, lol, but being serious, Cathelijn Peeters will almost certainly have one of the other two legs, not sure out of de Witte or Saalberg is most likely to get the fourth spot. De Witte has been doing it recently but Saalberg took the Budapest one.

Why is it that they can't/never show WR (OR/current fastest time) splits in athletics like they do in swimming?

I’ve gotten very tired of the flags for every medal winner. Used to be cool when a gold medalist would grab a flag from someone in stands, especially if it was a non-dominant sporting country. But now it’s like product placement, brand endorsement for TV broadcast. Would love to see someone skip the flag in an act of authenticity,

I would like to see more regional flags, but I guess they might be banned.

And an unreasonable yellow card too imo, that starting was taking way too long when on the set position, would completely understand if the judge decided that a yellow card wasn't needed.

Btw, Michael Gogl's wife ran today on the 400m semifinal, a good cycling connection there.
