Apparently Philipsen has been dealing with sickness before PR so he may not be in the best of form.
"before Roubaix" means since Sanremo, in his case, so Philipsen meanwhile still won Gent-Wevelgem. It's not ideal, but unless it got worse, not a game changer, I think.

When he finished 2nd two years ago, he was "sick" as well, as far as I can remember.

I don‘t think chaos and punctures have been reduced that much. The new material have contributed to the speed increase, but I think about half the contenders have at least one mechanical during the race. Don‘t think the likes of Cancellara had more punctures.
De Vlaeminck supposedly never punctured in any Paris-Roubaix from 1971-78.

According to WVA any day is a good day to break the monotomy of the same two guys winning all monuments.
I disagree! Thursday would be a terrible day to do that.
