I believe Jo's highest placing at a World Championship is
fourth, my friend, just prior to her turning 34.

She did become European Champion at 10,000m last year
not long before celebrating her 41st birthday, however her
best performance at 10,000m in 2014 places her 28th for
the year, about 1 1/2 minutes behind the fastest time.

At those championships she finished ahead of a third place Laila Traby, who had EPO in her apartment when raided by police...

Anybody who finishes in front of a doper must be doping. It should lead to an automatic life ban.

Journalists will have conditioned themselves to believe that any British athlete on a list like that must be on it in error. See the reaction to all the nandrolone positives in the late 1990s. Even Linford Christie gets a pass from most on the BBC; the only problem they have is with Dwain Chambers because he admitted what he'd done.

A great post. Absolutely defines the current state of play in the UK.

Linford Christie does not get a free pass, from the media or from the grass roots of the sport. He is tainted. I don't know anyone in the sport who thinks otherwise.
Sure, he runs an agency but I don't think that even his clients give him a free pass (not the ones I know anyway).

Bingo, he might get the odd highlight shown but he's never been part of any BBC presenting team since he was banned.

The people that pay him for services rendered (ie clients) don't give him a free pass?

Can someone explain that to me.

You might like to think not - others disagree with you. Try here for example

http://www.sportsjournalists.co.uk/sports-broadcasting/why-did-the-bbc-give-christie-an-easy-ride/

In this excellent piece our very good friend Andy Norman is credited with transforming Christie from a guy not able to make the 4x100 team at Los Angeles into the sprint beast he became. The fact that Christie was able to do this in his mid-twenties is referenced and yes, that is the same Andy Norman who was BBC stalwart and sometime cycling correspondent Jonathan Edwards coach.

This is a great read.
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/obituaries/andy-norman-403506.html

Then I type in Christie and BBC and there are any number of times Christie is still the "go-to" voice of opinion

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/wales/28303632

Somewhere religion is going to feature in Christie's life, as it is, he claims it is British racism that prevents him from being made a knight !

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/athletics/7463461.stm

As long as the BBC use him as the go-to voice of sprinting, his reputation and authority will grow. After all there is a stadium named after him !

that is basically what the subtext was. i said actions do not equal the words.

and was basically implying then what you wrote, actions take precedence over words, otherwise, we are all like JV or Obama.

Radcliffe really going on the offensive now.. I think she might be crazier than Lance.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/ot...ffe-anger-at-horrible-doping-accusations.html
“It’s horrible. I get it all the time,” she said. “People say ‘she couldn’t have run 2-15 clean’. I know I can be totally proud but it does make you angry and it does make you think we have to put a *system in place that protects those athletes. On the one hand you think people can say what they want because you know inside, but it’s still not nice to have people saying that.

“I can’t understand how other people who have cheated can stand there and look their competitors and family in the eye.”

She reiterated her desire for cheats to be banned for life in the wake of the Russian doping revelations and has now revealed that she is considering taking on a formal anti-doping role.

“That would be something I would look at because you can’t just moan about something,” she said. “If you are going to have strong views about something you might as well get involved in actually doing something proactively to back it up. As an athlete you identify with what people are going through.

She was prone to the old melt down. No doubt she will combust at some point. Good to see the British media just printing the PR. Walsh needs to get in there a write her new book, throw a butterfly in, talk about training hard and all will be good.
