The drop in profile and finance in Spanish football is very steep outside the top 2 divisions (esp compared to English football, prob not compared to US franchised sports and McQuaid's vision for cycling)
Coruxo FC's stadium holds 1200 people (according to wiki: pics of their last home match suggest that attendance is a small fraction of that: that would be small for the Ryman's League Northern division (8th level of English football) that I sometimes watch. The team is very much semi-pro, and his involvement with them is likely to be primarily PR and a bit of fun. It is by no means a second career.
Like most sportsmen, he will have taken part in a number of sports as a young man, and at some stage had to choose in which one to specialise. Basic techniques are unlikely to have been lost.
