If he really was struggling mentally then he would retire into deserved obscurity.

The fact that he's effectively saying "I'm not going anywhere until 2016 without a payoff" suggests his brain is very much still functioning and focussed on the £££s.

He is a liar, 100%. Liggett aware and cognizant of his surroundings. He can speak in full sentences. He is getting up in age, but is not senile. He is a liar.

Liggett may have been one of the few professional liars bought and paid for (at least) twice: once by his regular employers; and once again by one of the stars he was actually commentating on.

In fairness, though, with LA you were either with him or against him. Failure to cooperate enthusiastically would have meant a short career in cycling commentating. Have no doubt about that.

Imo, the oldie is the same cycling disgrace as Armstrong himself. His knowledge doesn't hold water and inferior to any fan who follows cycling for a half year at least. The man knows nothing about cycling and it's striking thing that he's not willing to know more. Watching old Tours on youtube and listening to him, I wonder how such a clown walk into journalism and became an international cycling voice.

As for Lance's case, first of all Liggett is a big liar surely. Sadly, it's a vivid embodiment of entirely sycophant nature of this profession.

I say senile. I think his commentary and comments in the past show him as gullible and rather stupid over the past decade. He use to be rather good commentator from what I have heard of him and he sometimes does a good job but he makes many mistake and dumb comments.

In order to agree with this then he must also act and comment in similar fashion, but yet he doens't hesitate to remind us of Contador, Vino, or Basso when he calls them disgraced or caught cheating doing drugs, etc

For god's sake, Ligget is close to the peleton for decades.
There's just no way he couldn't have known the truth about Armstrong.
However, i think he has the Lance syndrom and somehow told himself that Armstrong was the real deal until he believed it himself. A few paychecks from Lance will have probably done the rest.

I read the provided link and others. From what I can make out, the clincher for the old chap that Lance has doped; was when big businesses pulled their sponsor tubes from Lance's blood bag.

Phil has denied or attacked the evidence for years. Now the money is going, so is he. I wonder if the reason for the people who are losing their livelihoods at Rabobank has even registered with him.

If he was ignorant of Lance's behaviour, it was wilful ignorance. Now the glamour is fading, so is his support.

I do like Phil. He's not the best commentator going around but I find it hard to dislike him. Perhaps because he's old and I associate all aged commentators with the paragon of sports commentary, Richie Benaud.

Paul on the other hand is an idiot who's up himself.

In case you missed it, Scott LeMond tweeted that at the 2007 TdF Liggett and Sherwin were joking about how much dope Armstrong must have been on. They knew.
I suggest there would be quite a few journalists who would be "interested" in this fact, but it might be worth sending them a link to make sure. ;)

You seen how many people were sucked in by Lance - why is unreasonable to believe he wouldn't be another one?

Because the people who were duped when they heard about the allegations at worse would say that they hope its not true.

Ligget meanwhile waged dirty war on everyone who lance deemed his enemy.

He claimed that USADA is not an anti doping organization, he went after those who testified he made claims that it was rigged.

He mocked Tylers confession by not mentioning the allegations but just saying " congratulations ekimov on your 2nd gold medal".

He made all over the place comments about Ullrich saying Lance was clean:confused:, about doping not being important anyway:confused:, about everyone being bitter that Lance beat dopers clean:rolleyes: and even about USADA going after sky

He never for a second allowed anyone to suggest lance doped, and if you have deliberately closed your mind off to the other side, then you are not duped, you are 100% on side.

It is really hard to say what is going on with Phil. Since I don't know what he knows......

If he doesn't know anything, it is possible that he is just one of those guys who is almost too loyal -- the last guy to be convinced because he feels an obligation to be on his friend's side. In that case, he would be the one being taken the longest, in theory.

If he knows about what is going on, then I have no idea about his reaction, unless he is simply one of those people -- like the lady at Oakley? -- who has something to lose and pretty much has no other option, in his mind.

It is possible that it is something else, but in my mind I will narrow it down to those two.

This is an offensive comment. Ligget is totally unable to identify even the top riders in the world, nor their abilities, unless they are from the US England or Australia. He even got Valverde wrong 2 years back. Val ****ing verde.

The guy who was world number 1 pretty much none stop for years, and Ligger has no clue who he is. I have never in my life met a cycling fan who didn't know 100 times more about cycling than Ligget and for once i am absolutely not using hyperbole.

Take a look at the cq top 100, and tell me how many riders do you think Ligget can match a face to a name to a team? Every commentator i have come accross would be at least 95 on that, Ligget, hell will wiggins, Froome and start struggling once he gets to Cav.

I find it hard to believe that someone who has not only been involved in the sport for so long but so close to the riders would not know what was going on. It sounds like the majority of the media knew, to some extent, what was going on but were fearful of saying anything for either getting sued or losing access to their cash cow.

That said, he does seem to now be going slightly senile and it is time to give someone else the chance to help look after the suitcase of courage.

I think it is quite possible Phil did not know what was going on. For example, kids can live under the same roof with their parents, but the parents never know their kid is doing drugs. It would be even harder for Phil to know unless he was able to witness something that shows someone was doping. So, I think Phil did not know and so is not a liar. But stupid... that's another story.

Didnt know which of the Liggett threads to put this in but this will do.

Phil showing he is actually smarter then he has been given credit for jumping ship big time apparently he always doubted it now.

http://www.sportal.com.au/other-sports-news-display/liggett-details-armstrong-doubts-217868

Didnt he say if Lance doped he would retire, wish he would hurry up and follow through on his promise.

"Liggett said Armstrong's reported confession with Oprah Winfrey, to be shown on Friday, would mark the end of the darkest chapter in cycling history ahead of a new World Tour season that starts on Sunday in Adelaide.

"I believe the last two winners of The Tour de France, Cadel Evans and Bradley Wiggins, were totally clean."

"There is a new dawn. These young kids now know that pure talent can win races," he said."

Still perpetuating the omerta cycling, please get out of cycling now. You are part of the problem.

"You can say he joined the crowd and did what he had to do to get the job done. That's how America thinks."

Seriously? So how do the British think Phil? I guess you are all a bunch of lemmings who follow the proclamations of those American "get the job doner's" off a cliff...no wait, you didn't have the integrity to follow him off a cliff because you said that you'd quit if he was ever found to have used PED's and you are calling a cycling race in Australia in the coming weeks...well lemming, jump off the cliff as you said you would.

Liggett is an a$$hole.

Lol, I agree. Phil is just completely delusional. How can anyone take anything he says even remotely serious now after all the Wonderboy ball washing he's done? He's just a sad man now. He has the chance to bow out gracefully, doubt he takes it. Please retire like you said you would Phil.

Oh, and if he does leave, he can take "Bobke" with him. He's almost as big a Wonderboy apologist as Phil.

Thanks Hitch.

Phil is just wrong for the sport...listening love lance all those years, even after lance quit, just made me sick. I hope the egg on his and Paul's face never comes off.
