It's about time we started to see signs of the old Gilbert returning. Finally getting some big wins now. His win was like a carbon copy of how he won worlds.

Looking pretty good for FW and LBL at the moment as well.

He beat his own fastest time up the Cauberg today. Prepare for more domination.

I hope not though. Nothing against Gilbert, but it's not that entertaining.
Did BMC contract Ibarguen this year or what? :D

Peiper. Eversince they fired lelangue and hired peiper after the tour the wins have been flowing in, that guy is a genius

He seems to be able to get results out of riders, that's for sure. He said BMC would be changing things in the classics and they look much better this year.

I still wonder what the influence of Dirk De Wolf (his former mentor for 15 years!) was until 2011. Once at BMC, De Wolf was not his mentor anymore (probably team wishes), but Gilbert and De Wolf are still good friends.

If you have seen the worlds in '90 in Utsunomiya, and the way how De Wolf rode that day, must be some very very special pills or juice!

I'm always a bit sceptic toward 'geniuses' in cycling. This doesn't mean that they are doing something wrong, but it's just that gut feeling that the past of cycling gave me.

Looks like I was right from what I saw at Brabantse Pijl. Gilbert can win AGR -> cauberg is perfect for him.

But FW and LBL are clearly too much for him. Mur de Huy is too steep. LBL too demanding.

I can't understand how he managed to win Lombardia twice, when he's getting dropped like a stone towards Ans in his biggest target of the year

Late season, lot of good climbers tired an unmotivated. Or at least not as motivated as Gilbert.

Good call.

Makes me wonder if these races are being raced harder than in 2009-2011

This is how a true champion reacts to an unsuccesful ardennes campaign and a crash before his biggest goal of the year. Amazing ride.

Smart race and a very good win. It's good seeing Gilbert win, also great ride by Moinard.

Off topic, but what's happened to Afrank?

Two good wins by Gilbert. Really believe that the results i AGR and LBL didn't justify his form. Unlucky/poor tactical performance in AGR and the crash in FW ruined his chances in LBL. Hope we'll see him in top form in the second half of the season too. San Sebastian, Eneco Tour and GP Montreal and Quebec could be good races for Gilbert.

2 wins in 7 days, he's looking good. Hope he can add some more great wins to his palmarees in the next 2 months!

Phil wants to fully focus on the cobbled races next season. Not only on de Ronde but also on Roubaix. Either at BMC or if they don't let him somewhere else

Great news. If he can put on 3-4kg of useful bulk he would be a serious contender for both of them; it's brave as well to sacrifice your strongest races to try something new and build a more rounded palmares. I wish more riders would do it.

He definitely should move team if possible; otherwise he'll just be used by BMC to launch unrealistic attacks, with the intention of leaving GVA fresher at the finish.

If he does become successful at this, winning RVV and MSR is within reach. He could become the first rider in a long time to win 4 monuments. Maybe even 5 if he could do well in PR and get lucky.

He's been 3rd at MSR twice. He'll never be one of the top favourites, but he does have a chance.

Unless if by some cruel twist of circumstance they include Pompeiana.

If only pipo didn't close the gap a few years ago.
