Philippe Gilbert has really shown his true colours this season, in his form and his stunning national jersey which i want!

He has always been a good contender ever since his first win in 2003 claiming handfuls of victories and podiums. However this season he has shown that he is not just a classic race rider and has the overall ability to claim and fight for GC, Green and Polka Jerseys.

Now he is leader of the UCI World Rankings and with the new season ahead at BMC (who are looking like an extremely strong team) I believe he will shine even more this season and one to watch no doubt!

I'll say no in the same way Spartacus was hampered this spring after his dominance of the previous year. I suspect the hog will be in the schleck's ears via r/radio at the first sign of any tactical ineptness in the ardennes. Add that to the return of valverde

oh, and the revival of gerrans at greenedge :D

those 2 bolded parts are just no no no no. his national champion jersey is hideous compared to for example boonens's and he has no chance in hell to go for GC and polka dots in GT's, green would also be mighty hard with this new "please cav go away and win the green jersey" rules

He'll undoubtedly be worse in 2012.

The main reason for that is that his 2011 season was remarkable and not the sort of thing that is repeated.

He'll still be good, but then he'll be watched and analysed just as Cancellara was after his 2010 and strategies will be hatched..

He'll still win big races, just not as much as this year. Nothing to do with BMC though.

No,. Just like cancellara he will marked out of races. We saw it in Lombardia at the end of the season.

he was also the leader at Omega Pharma, that wont be the case at BMC, very different circumstances.

That said, he proved with the amount of work he did helping Taylor Phinney in the mid season races that hes not above domestique duties.

Well Evans for a start. Gilbert wont be able to ride the tour like he did this year.

The general depth of BMC is much stronger than it was at Lotto where basically he was responsible for virtually all of their points.

Its going to be very hard to match an exceptional year.

If I was him I would concentrate on what I hadnt won and conserve energy in the rest, but I'm not him - he is a true racer.

Does the RVV course change help him?

Oh and Valverde is back - which must mean some real competition

All I saw was Gilbert getting dropped in the final, was I watching a different race?

Lol? You saw Gilbert getting marked? I just saw a tired Gilbert after a long and hard season that would have won on one leg in LBL form.

And you really think he won't be leader at BMC? LOL.

Gilbert was marked at every race after his Brabantse Pijl, AGR and FW victory. It never stopped him from winning.

And your last sentence doesn't even make sense. He rode from the back of the peloton to the front once at Eneco with Phinney on his wheel. Don't exaggerate... You honestly think Phinney will be a leader at BMC with Phil working for him? Keep dreaming.
Gilbert isn't paid to help other people win, but to win races for him self. HIS WORDS.

I wouldnt have given him much chance to win FW personally, thought it was just too long for him, so he could surprise as next year too.

I dont think hell have as good a season points wise, or even close but I do expect him to get his biggest victory next year, in October, or maybe even in July.

I do think his opposition rode like numbskulls in fw. He did well to win, but it came far to easy.

Click on "sporten" and then Wielrennen. You'll see a vid with Cancellara at a show called the Laatste Show talking about the new Ronde.
Didn't know Cancellara also spoke Spanish, but there you go :p

And even some Dutch.

He only won one monument, next year I think he will win two.

I think the changes at RvV favor him.

He'll have a team capable of helping him at Flanders as well.

Im hardly Gilberts biggest fan (though I still love the guy), and had hoped to see someone else win FW, but from what I heard he went up the Muur as fast as Cadel, and thats considering that he started celebrating about 100 m out.

I got to love you Belgians. In England a cyclist like Cancellara wouldn't get into the audience on a talk show but here hes on the panel:eek:

Actually, Gilbert has the fastest time ever recorded on the Mur de Huy(though that doesn't say much because in the 90s the race was harder and raced differently).
