He wasn't even supposed to ride in Flanders, he only did because of the pressure in the press, and the bad team results.

The plan was to focus on the ardennes classics this year, starting with the amstel gold race.

He never planned on riding Roubaix, as he's putting everything on the Amstel - Flêche - Liège triple. His team management said that he would have to sacrifice his chances there if he rode the Ronde, but Gilbert himself already stated that he's not even in top condition yet (and still finishing 3rd in the Ronde), and will reach his peak in the next 2 weeks. So I think he can do surprisingly well in the Amstel and Liège, especially with the great team they have: Evans, Dekker, Wegelius, Van Den Broeck, Lloyd, Aerts and Vansummeren.
