Note that Tyler Farrar, placing 29th yesterday was 36sec off the winning time. In the 2010 opening TdF ITT he placed 7th at 28sec down. I voted for Cancellera, but I am not as certain anymore.

Thats irrelevant as its obvious that Cancellara had better competition and the obvious reason for farrar is because he evidently isnt on as good form as he was then.

By the way, pretty stupid to compare 2 prologues from 2 different races. Giro prologue was more technical and the weather always differs. You can't compare just by looking at the time lol. Next year's Tour won't have a prologue, so the next time there will be a Tour prologue will be in 2014(where both Phinney and Cancellara can be at the start line).

Wait a minute. You yourself made a solid argument for each rider dependent upon the nature of the track. An "out of shape" Farrar finishes 36sec down on a visibly more turny course yesterday, but only 28sec down on a much straiter course in 2010? As both were ITT's, competition resides only in the rider's heads. How is that irrelevant?

[my edit] The analysis I was referring to was from Ferminal, not Froome19. Had I noted that initially I probably would not have posted this.

With Fabu's clavicle break ending his spring carnage campaign, I think we're going to see the beastliest Fabian of all time at this years TdF. He's going to set new TT records, and steal a couple of sprint victories from Cav.

Just imagine all of that mojo he didn't get out in the spring time.. it's just building up and turning him into a type of incredible hulk of bike racing..

Yes, that's about the sum of it.

Phinney is a big talent, who is already very good and will be excellent in the future. Cancellara and Martin are excellent now.

In two years, Phinney will be two years better while Cancellara will be two years older.

Fixed for you. :D

He was also 2 years younger than Phinney. When he was the same age as Phinney in his neo-pro year, Cancellara was ranked 56th of the world according to CQ. First GT he rode was the 2004 Tour, and he won the prologue.

They're hardly comparable in such straight terms.
Cancellara may have won his first GT prologue but don't forget that he was 23. Phinney is still only 21 and Durbridge (who isn't getting enough love here IMO) is only 20 and has been matching Phinney's TT performances the last few years when they have gone head to head.

My call - Cancellara now, but I believe that Phinney and Durbridge will be the two dominant prologue riders in 2-4 years, replacing Martin and Cancellara. These kids are beasts.

Phinney is already excellent below 10km, but has to work on his longer TT. If he really wants to dominate like cancellara does.

Durbo is a diesel not a turbo. He will be better at longer TTs.I have no idea why Bobridge isn't better at prologue's.

I would say Phinney if he was 26 or so years older ( with a good pal mares ). Otherwise i have to say Cancellara- he will smash the prologue in Liege and is a proven quantity in ITT's.

Besides Durbridge will smash him in the longer ITT's of course.
