Play the CQ Manager Game 2023!

Hey cyclingnews friends,

the 13th edition of the CQ Manager Game is starting in just 5 days, so this is an annual post in the Road Racing forum to serve as a reminder for returning players or a heads-up for those who may not have heard of it before. I'm aware of the likelihood that many forum users don't regularly visit the Games and Fantasy Cycling section, so this post is also intended to call attention to the game and that forum in general. Lots of fun stuff going on there that can make following cycling even more interesting!

The premise of the game is simple - you act as a team manager, picking between 25 and 33 riders for the year, spending no more than 7500 CQ points (as detailed by Cyclingnews forums poster Hugo Koblet invented the game, and since 2011 it has become a tradition for many folks on here - last year there were 91 teams, and it would be great to keep that up.

Anyway, details are to be found on this thread. I recognize this is being posted in the road forum, and don't intend for this to be a discussion thread here - I wanted to post it temporarily here for a few days (deadline for entry is 23:59 CET January 6th), since it's the offseason and folks may not be aware of its existence. If you haven't played before, you should try it out! Even if it might be a bit of a learning curve, you'll have plenty of riders to follow throughout the ups and downs of the year, and you might gain an interest in races you never really knew about before.

If you have questions etc, I encourage you to ask them in the main game thread I've linked to, or by PM.

(note to mods: I've asked if it's okay to post this reminder thread here in PRR in the past, and it has been fine - let me know if anything has changed)
The deadline has passed: you have missed the best, but you can still try the rest:
Women's WT CQ Game (16 female riders, budget 4000 points, WWT and WC races only to count, entries close when Women's TDU starts on 15 Jan Aussie time)
Emerging Riders Game (18 male riders who each have a lifetime total of less than 200 points to the end of 2022; points earned until end of 2025 season, entries by 23:59 GMT/UTC on 13th Jan)
and others to follow for the Spring Classics and the three Grand Tours.
A reminder lest you haven't seen one elsewhere: the Spring Classics CQ Game (you need to pick 12 riders for the men's WT and PT races from Omloop to Eschborn-Frankfurt) closes when the Omloop starts in about one day and 17 hours from the datestamp here. (About 11am Saturday in Belgium, you can probably work that out for your timezone of choice). Don't miss it.

Thanks for sharing! It sounds like a fun way to get more involved in cycling and follow riders throughout the year. I appreciate the simple premise of being a team manager and picking riders while staying under a budget! However, I usually prefer games from, where I can make some extra money. Anyway, good luck to all the players, and have fun!

Less than 2 days left for the Giro CQ game : entries needed by early afternoon (European time) on Saturday.

Pick 8 riders, make sure they did not total more than 3500 CQ points between them over the last 12 months (there's a spreadsheet to help with that), and I'll do the best.

C'mon Patrick, and the rest of you: give it a go.
