But he was dropped riding tempo in the saddle. I imagine a busted elbow would hinder you in a number of ways, but still...

I apologise if my answer is inadequate. I haven't had it vetted by Wallace, you see.
If there is any rider who doesn't ride tempo in the saddle it is Evans. The broken elbow hampered him far more than most because he habitually climbs out of the saddle and not just to accelerate like the others. Just witness the contrast between him and Basso in the Giro. I immediately noticed even early on the Madelaine that Evans was staying in the saddle when the pressure went up even before he was dropped. Even has he got dropped he was in the saddle, this is so out of the ordinary that it was clear something was awry. Of course those clueless gits P&P were oblivious.

To be fair, IIRC they did say something along the lines of 'something must be wrong with Evans, he normally would not be dropped like this'.

My question is How can he support riding with a broken elbow?

If it is a real break, that is impossible!

He did not get dropped in yesterday's stage, though it was a slower pace.

With all due respect, in regards to the "broken elbow" factor I'm perplexed.

However his past downfalls, of which there have been several, indicate that he is subject to off days in grand tours. Broken elbow or no broken elbow.

Cadel was tired. He rode all out at the Giro. Very few can preform consistently in the Tour after going for win in the Giro, plus Cadels tough efforts in the classics. Also unfortunatley many riders have bad days. Leipheimer and now Lance for instance. Basso is due for one in the Pyrenees. Happens to the best, no shame Cadel.
