He was on the list for Deutschland Tour which ends in the same weekend as the Vuelta starts.

Its a nice and balanced team, but 5 out of the 8 riders have ridden the Tour. 6 if everything went as planned with Landa... Ruben Fernandez can't catch a break. None of the young guys are selected which was kinda expected, well, Carapaz was, but in a bigger role than the likes of Castillo, Carretero, Bico etc., but the experienced rouleurs Bennati and Erviti where once again preferred. I had actually thought Rojas would be preferred instead of one of those or Amador after his crash in the Tour, he is already in good shape again. I feel bad for Rosón missing this race, lets hope Anacona can make up fill that role. When he is on he is really good, but the guy isn't terribly consistent. Sepulveda hasn't done anything to justify anything this year, Sutterlin is more valuable in the Tour and those kinda of stages and Valls didn't show enough to justify a selection in Burgos after his crash in the Giro where he actually climbed very well.

At the end of the day, it comes down to Valverde and Quintana. Both have realistic hopes of winning the race.

The Omission of Sutterlin is rather strange. Instead of Erviti or Bennati he would have been fresh. Now he has no GT in his legs come next year, where Bennati will be gone and Erviti another year older. And he was posting about getting into shape for Vuelta a few weeks ago after missing the TDF team. Maybe he is paying now for the team overracing him at the beginning of the season.

TBM - Vincenzo Nibali, Franco Pellizotti, Ion Izagirre, Gorka Izagirre, Ivan Garcia Cortina, Luka Pibernik, Hermann Pernsteiner and Mark Padun.

Nice to see Padun on the list, will be very interesting to see how he copes. Was also wishing to see Mohoric in the roster, but I guess he has done the fair share of racing for the year already being still very young.

I’m really glad Porte is Australian, he Is always the favourite bar Chris Froome in these races which means I get really good odds for everyone else. Quintana at 6 dollars Australian is so laughable

Can't really understand Porte being any sort of favourite. One must first routinely be in top 10 to be something like that. Nope. It's just so sad that his motor runs somewhere between Nibali, Froome and Quintana but his skillset does not. As much as I dislike Pinot, on overall, as a complet, Porte is nowhere near.

Not really. Pinot often gets sick in races or something goes wrong. He had problems with his descending and now it's it's his TT. The main problem for Porte at least in the last few seasons is that he can't stay upright. Is Pinot any closer now to winning a GT than Porte ? Not really. Still I think they should both do okay in the Vuelta. No Dumoulin or Froome. Should be an interesting race. As far as betting goes home countries always favour their own riders or athletes, it has little to do with logic.

A re-run of Carapaz versus MAL for more then the white jersey this time?
No white jersey in the Vuelta although there is a young riders competition where you get to where a different coloured number rendering it even more meaningless than usual :)

Technically there is a white jersey, it just denotes the Combination Classification.
