Prediction Game 2022 Women's Edition (De Amy Pieters Trofee)

RbdZhim.jpg

Final 2021 result
@Libertine Seguros 44.5
@Põhja Konn 40.5
@RedheadDane 39
@BlueRoads 37.5
@Samu Cuenca 37

It might be a bit early in the year to post this, but now I’ve done all the writing, so why not just get it out there and avoid forgetting it?
And I mean there's already one Paris-Nice thread.

So here it is; the thread for the second edition of my prediction game for the women’s calendar.

Five (and a half) forum members took part last year, but as long as I have at least one competitor I won’t be too disappointed.
And even if I end up being the only player, I’d still finish last, so please don’t be afraid to join the party!

2022 rules

Based on the experience I gained in the first edition, I’ve developed a new and improved points system, which won’t be changed during the season (knock on wood). Like in last year’s game it will still be possible to score a lot of points, so you’ll have to be very unlucky to finish on single digits here.

One-day races: Pick two riders who will be able to score you 3 points for a win, 2 for second place, 1 for third and 0.5 point for any other top 10 finish.
This means that it’s possible to get a maximum of 5 points during these races.

Stage races: The same as above + a stage huntress who’ll deliver you 0.5 point for every stage win she gets. The stage huntress can’t be one of your GC picks.
This means that it’s possible to get a maximum of 5 points + 0.5 per stage during these races.

Giro Donne and the Tour de France:
The same as the other stage races, but with three riders instead of two. The stage huntress can’t be picked for the GC or as one of the jersey winners.
If your three GC picks make up the final podium, you’ll receive an additional 2 points for being so clever.
This means that it’s possible to get a maximum of 6 points + 2 + 0.5 per stage during these races.

WC ITT and RR: Pick one rider for the ITT and two for the RR. Only medals count with 3 points awarded for gold, 2 for silver and 1 for bronze.
This means that it’s possible to get a maximum of 8 points during the World Championships.

Feel free to enter your picks already, so you at least have some if you forget to update them later on, though you obviously never know who’ll actually end up riding the races.
I register the bets at around 10 o’clock CEST/CET on the (first) day of a race, so you can change them countless times up until then.
You can either update a copy of the table below throughout the season (in this game known as the RhD method) or write your picks in separate posts as we go along.

The picks for the final WWT rankings have to be made before the start of Strade Bianche, the first WWT race of the season.

I will do my best to keep you updated on the scores and to alert you when the next race is coming up.

I hope you participate and have fun and perhaps this game will help make a possibly great and historic season of women’s races even better!

My season-long picks:

Winner of the Team Ranking: SD Worx
Winner of the U23 WWT Ranking: despite some temptation to pick Lonneke Uneken or Niamh Fisher-Black, I am going to follow suit and also pick Blanka Kata Vas.
Winner of the overall WWT Ranking: well, as I'm the defending champion in the game, this one should be fairly self-explanatory, who do you think I'm gonna pick?

I'll wait with my picks for Omloop until I have somewhat of an idea of who'll ride.

The long term picks can wait til around SB, right?

I have no idea how accurate the startslist(s) published online will be either. It could be affected by new Covid cases as well.
As long you have your predictions ready by Saturday, it's all good.

I can’t face editing a table on my phone so I’ll go with the post by post approach:
Omloop: Norsgaard and Bastianelli

It's delightful to welcome a new player to the game!

Same long term picks as Libertine Seguros!

Tactically smart. Also since they're the same picks as mine, they will obviously earn you three points :sweatsmile:

Time to get my second season in this on the way too. The most obvious picks in season-long categories are already being shared by multiple players, so I decided to add a bit of variety with mine.

I also don’t want to keep editing a table, so post by post for me. For Omloop:Niewiadoma and Balsamo. Same long term picks as Libertine Seguros because it’s pretty obvious.

It's quite alright to do it like that. Welcome to the game!

It's just great to have some variety, and I was not that far from picking Trek myself either,
Last year we all got it wrong with Van der Breggen, so it might work out well for you.

Ok, so you have chosen your 2021 MVP then?
I wasn't sure what you meant, and then I just assumed you as the defending champion had picked the defending champion.
As the defending champion, I have chosen the main reason I am the defending champion.

It's kind of a gamble, since there's no Anna VDB to work off of, but at the same time kind of not, at 25 she should be heading toward peak and will get to lead more at SD Worx in Anna's absence too.

But mainly it's because, a bit like picking van der Breggen for Flèche last year even though her form was questionable, it would just not feel right to not back Demi when she's repaid my faith in her in spades time and time again.

Also, as with last year, I'm going to be prone to heart over head selections until such point as the GC running order in the game is established.

Prefectly reasonable. Let's just hope you don't lose by one point or less in the end, though with all the other points on offer it isn't too likely, but you never know.

Jumbo Visma Fan :) and Gwbert, are you backing Vollering or Van Vleuten?
