God that guy could ride. I would never compare myself to him as he was two leagues up on me, but we raced together a lot in Italy in '06 and I cracked him once - just once. Every other race he dominated and showed a level of class - doped or not - that made all the more lamentable the way in which he went about getting himself blackballed from the top tier of the sport. No different than any other doper as far as what he did or how, but foolish in how he reacted to trouble.

Doping doesn't make donkeys into racehorses...someone like Rumsas would beat me 99/100 times whether he was doped or not. W/ EPO he just goes even faster and recovers even quicker. But his talent was there in spades.

He made good money though in '06...not Lance or Floyd money, but better than so many others who fall from grace.
