Prostatitis

Hello all.

I'm not sure if this is in the correct forum but I'm looking for some help or similar experiences.

I was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection three weeks ago which is rare among men. The antibiotics haven't taken full effect. My doctor now thinks that it is prostatitis and set me on another set of antibiotics.

I mentioned that I'm a regular cyclist and he seemed to think that the two could be related. Does anyone else have similar experiences or know if there is a link between the two?

I tend to ride 5-6 days a week and with my schedule fit in between 30-40km (1 - 1 1/2) hours per ride so I didn't think I was overdoing it. I have an ergo seat so that can't be the problem.

Is it still ok to ride? I'm thinking of cutting back for the winter holidays but I can't stay off the bike completely.

Just looking for some suggestions.

Cheers and thanks for your help.

With an active infection, I think it would be best to stop doing 'pleasure' or 'training' rides - let the medications work and do their job.
For necessary 'transportation riding' reduce the exertion level to the lowest possible.

Also be sure to drink plenty of water.

Another thing that I found is to avoid clothing that is 'tight' around my abdomen - use the next size larger waist size!
