Good on him, It's his place. He should be able to set the rules of his fine establishment. It's not like he's discriminating against anyone. Cyclists can carry a pair of pants with them if their hell bent on eating in his restaurant.

visions of Clark Kent ducking into a Phone Booth for a quick change

spare tube(s), tyre levers, phone, money card, mini pump, fuel flask......spare pair of pants

Have you been to Amsterdam or Copenhagen?

I love seeing men in 3 piece suits riding to work.....with their brief cases on the carrier on the back of the bike - classic stuff.

In Amsterdam I saw women wearing dresses and high heels riding bikes.

I guess he just figures that the business lost by deterring easily-offended patrons is worse than the business lost by excluding the cyclists. His choice.

We have cafes here in Vancouver that are unwelcoming of cyclists, too. We tend arrive in large clumps, put our helmets and stuff everywhere, and not buy much if it's just a pre-ride meeting spot. Me? I go early and always have a coffee and pre-ride snack. On the other hand we also have a cafe (Musette) that actively encourages cyclists (although it's currently being re-developed/relocated or something).

The best set-up I've seen was in Bristol where a there was a bike shop by the harbour that had a cafe upstairs. Really neat. You even got to ride on 50m of cobbles to get to it.

What's strange about that? When the bike was first invented all women wore dresses... that's why women's bikes are differently constructed from men's bikes.

As for the pub; his place, his choice.

Please understand that in certain parts of the world.....it's very strange to see a woman....in a dress....in makeup....in high heels riding a bike around.....just as it's unusual to see a man in a 3 piece suit riding a bicycle to work.
I think it's great btw :D
Obviously, the two cities i mentioned up thread are exceptions to this.

Another article from my morning online newspaper read....E-Bikes are starting to take off here in NZ, so maybe we'll see more folks riding to work....in their work attire.

As far as I'm concerned....the more people on bikes, the better :)

I think this is pretty cool also - Nice work Montreal!!

But neither of these are as strange as it would be to see a man... in a dress... in makeup... in high heels riding a bike around. :p
But if anyone did; no problem. :D

Unless it's an outdoor beer garden, fair enough. On the rare occasion I do stop for after ride coffee/food I'll generally make sure it's outdoor seating. Nothing more embarrassing than ponking out the next table when they're trying to enjoy a meal.

When I'm with a group, some take it the wrong way when I point it out, but not my problem :)
