He just gonna skip the Tour, ride the Olympics sorta as semi-prep and go all out in the Vuelta. That would be great for his chances in La Vuelta since many riders have a VERY heavy schedule this year.

Yeah, I agree with this. He's got nothing to prove at the Tour anymore apart from winning the polka-dots, but that can be very draining. It's happened so many times that a fresh rider wins the Vuelta, he doesn't have to be as good as other years, he just has to be fresh and he can win.
Perhaps he can ride Tour de Suisse and try and get a few good results there.

The Olympics as semi-prep? A hugely important race that should actually suit him, like, a lot? That wouldn't make a lot of sense.

I'd know it wouldn't go well with some posters, primarily you and Echoes, and that it is a little controversial, but I'd say pick your fights carefully. He will be 37 this summer and has experienced a steady, but rather slow decline from 2012. I can't really see him having a good chance of winning the Olympics considering more or less everyone has that race on mind this year after the Tour. If he peaks too early, he won't win the Vuelta. The chances of him winning the Vuelta is rather slim anyways, but its there and the route is as Unipublic as you will get.

Its risky, but I would prioritise a GT-win (especially after being so close and his hometour) more than Olympic gold. And the chances, assuming he is 100%, is bigger at the Vuelta IMO.

very depressing to see the outstanding master declining so dashingly beneath our very eyes. hopefully purito will deliver several more great showings. ¡vamos, j-rod!

Hey, I'm not Echoes, I'm perfectly OK with targeting GTs :p

I just don't think they are or ever were Purito's strong suit and I would still rate his chances at a medal higher than his chances of winning the Vuelta.

Nah, but I just view you guys as a little more oldshool :p

I agree, he has higher chances of a medal than winning the Vuelta. But wouldn't you rather win the Vuelta?

TdF is by far the most important race for the teams. jut in the cae the race is very bad for climbers Purito is not going to be there, Thi year the race suit him much better than last year. Who in Kathousa is going to do it better than Purito in le Tour? Other way would be if the team would have another strong rider.

Considering that both Porte or Tejay should skip le Tour and fo for the Vuelta. Of course is important to be fresh there, but teams has its priorities.

For Purito use Olimpic as preparation (ein?) and based his year in La Vuelta, that nobody assure you he is going to win is quite stupid. Valverde podium of le Tour is more important than Aru s Vuelta. anyway just one rider win le Tour and just 3 can be on the podium. So of course it is not a dissapoint if he is not.

Hi is not at his top shape here, so he is not going to win Pais Vasco, but he is in a good shape to be up there. Maybe is not his year, or maybe yes, the year is long. He is almost 37 already, so maybe he wont be at his best anymore. But 3 year ago he was droping Froome at le Tour.

Why i hear soo much he declined from 2012?

2013 was his best season in terms of individual perfomances. Last weak Tour 2013, Firenze, Lombardia. He just has some bad luck with crashes in Amstel. But he was as good as 2012.

2014 was just a horrible season with crashes and fractures. But he showed in Catalunya (before all the problems), he was up for a great season.

PURITO!!!! He's back!!!

Attacked on the steep Izua climb, made tempo for some km's on that climb, and eventually finishes with the big three on Arrate! While Quintana loses 30 seconds, Costa 50 seconds, Landa and Kelderman 1 minute.

It just shows how fast it can go. From big doubts about the classics to one of the big favorites to win one of them. Especially because he's coming into shape, while Henao is already there for a while.

Valverde, Rodriguez and Henao at Huy, good stuff!

And don't underestime him in the ITT. I mean, Contador and Henao are my bets, but last year he showed he's world class in such a hard, techincal TT.

I hope for a podium. That will be a big result.

You don't understand my point. I'm talking about a hard, shorter TT with a climb, technical descent and less flat km's.

Just look at Chorges 2013 in Le Tour.

He is getting better. Maybe he can make the podium? He is pretty good downhill. Especially when it's wet and technical.

Sanchez might be a danger man to his 4th place. He is one of the best descender out there.

He is. Vuelta 2012 stage 11, Tour 2013 stage 17, Pais Vasco 2015 stage 6.

Good showing by Purito this País Vasco. He went better and better during the race. He came from far. He was really strong on the Arrate stage, and did a decent ITT.

Against this Contador, it was impossible anyway. If Purito wants to win a stage race, he has to do it in a race without Alberto ;)

But now the focus will be on the classics. Like every year, he will be one of the favorites. I hope he can win one of them. But even in the years he was super strong, he didn't won Liege. So i'm just hoping he will be in the mix, and then we'll see :)

Vuelta or L-B-L. I really want him to win one of those before his career is over. Liege he almost has to. It would be strange for a rider like him to not have this race in his palmares. The form is coming along, this could be the year. Come on little man you can do it!

Yeah, but it was more Contador who rode a ITT i rarely have seen. And you have to be honest, at this point of his career, he can't beat Contador anymore in a stage race.

He, Henao and Contador were the three best riders in the race. And were also the three riders with the best ITT. Purito was not good at the beginning of the race, but was on the level of Pinot at the end of the race (top-5), so that's a good sign.

He rode a more then decent ITT. Not great/mutant, but good enough atm.

It's going to be damn hard to win either Fleche or especially Liege for him. Last year he was in much better shape but still he couldn't do it. Although much depends on Valverde's form. I have a feeling when Bala is not so good, then Purito flies.. ;)
