Isnt heat going to be a factor though? The Tour of Quatar is in february, i think that late September early October is going to be considerably hotter than that.

They've probably come up with a plan to put sprinklers along the whole route, I guess.
On the other hand they'll probably say the temperature is enough to make a selection (Athens Olympics).
I doubt if Cav can handle the heat for instance.

If it's hot enough to make a selection then I guess it will be a good race, with no clear favourite. I would imagine the Northern Classics Specialists will suffer, maybe one for an Aussie?

Lol, just because you're a northern classic specialist doesn't mean you can't stand the heat. Boonen has won 20 stages and the overall 4 times. He always says he rides better in the sun.

Given the temperature average is 15 degrees hotter in Sept than Feb, I would say that doesn't count for much.

You wouldn't say previous performances racing in Qatar count for much?

Perhaps the UCI are thinking that if FIFA can hold a world cup there in July 2022 then a september date for a World Road Championship will be fine in terms of heat

I would say that performances at 22 degrees is not a great indicator of how someone handles 38 degrees.

I wonder how much Qatar paid McQuaid.

Lol they're not even going to bother with the sham of explaining how Qatar is the best place to decide the World Champion(s). Just deposit the money and tell everybody else not to bother

Wouldn't be too surprised if in a few years we hear about some up-and-coming super sprinter from Qatar... :p

Whether it's boring depends on the wind. You get loads of echelons in TdQ. Surprised no-one has mentioned that. But flat, yes.

Echelons less likely on a circuit course, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's just up and down a corniche either to be honest, but that is our main hope.

After all, the parcours is gonna make København look like Mendrisio so we'd better hope for wind.

Would have been much better with worlds in Norway who also applied for the 2016 championships. It would have been colder of course but also much hillier.

they can make the stadiums colder. And even if they dont, 90 minutes of football is not the same as an endurance shootout in the deserrt.

Based on previous incidents, they can just buy 1.

Maybe Kittel won't want to be working for Greipel. Or maybe hell want the money. Germany don't need 2 sprinters.

Oh please no :(

Yea, maybe the worse race venue for a Worlds race... will the hills be replaced by curbs and technical descents by sections of road though another parking lot like the Qatar race TT

Our hope is that it is canceled due to a sand storm.
