Tiejs Benoot finished ahead of Froome on the Dauphine stage Costa won - and I don't remember him being in a breakaway that day. If he truly wasn't in a breakaway, then who is to say he couldn't work hard at his climbing?

Because he's far better classics/puncheur...hes not a pure climber..it would be total waste of his talent.

JVDB and De Gendt have their best climbing days behind them, it seems.

Wellens might get better at pure climbing, he's the only one of the 'established' Belgian riders who might win one IMO.

Then there's Vervaeke, but I don't know his true potential. De Tier and Campenaerts of Topsport might surprise the next few years.

Thanks...I'll keep an eye on Campenaerts and Vervaeke. Never heard of De Tier though..isn't that a team? Oh and yes I do agree with Wellens; he's been very entertaining as an attacker, I hope he gets even better.

Floris de Tier is a first year pro at Topsport, and I've heard good stories about his climbing abilities. He's had some close finishes so far this year, as well as two top 50's on his first attempt at the Ardennes week. His time trial sucks though so a GT win is probably far out of his league.

Campenaerts seems to be a solid TT specialist, but his results also indicate some climbing potential. That is, if he loses a few kilos.

I think that the key for a young Belgian who has GT GC aspirations is to go live in another country, and develop on a team that also has GT CG focus.

Never say never...who would have thought that a kid from Poland would be wearing the rainbow kit this year?
