Not for the haters. I can feel where this thread is going to.

Sadly any thread involving Sky, Wiggins or Cav all go the the same way.

OPQS have all been about Boonen this year, Sky have all been about Wiggo. If you take those two out of the picture Sky have been stronger. Hard to compare directly though as obviously one team dominated the classics, the other dominated stage races.

QS just won 2 World titles.

Anyway, Sky's roster is much better than QS, so yeah they're better. Take into account the lame routes of Paris-Nice(time trials), Romandie(time trials), Tour de France(time trials) and the fact that Contador was banned and it was always going to be Sky.

Sky have a ridiculous amount of stars in their team: Froome, Wiggins, Edvald Boasson Hagen and Mark Cavendish.

QS only have 2 riders of that level: Tony Martin(lot's of bad luck this year) and Tom Boonen.

I wouldn't use those rankings to rank teams/riders though. Last year OPL won the WT team ranking, but were they really the best team?

There's just too many worthless races with a high status to use any of those rankings. GP Plouay, Vattenfall Cyclassics, GP Montreal, GP Quebec, Tour Down Under, Tour de Beijing, that other Chinese stage race, etc.

And stage races like Paris-Nice and Tour de Romandie shouldn't give as many points as a Monument.

I think the most important comparison was missed by the OP. A discussion of who has the better kit would obviously be far more fruitful.

The Adidas stripes are classic, but I gotta go with OPQS cuz that **** is fresh.

EDIT: Also, the mouth-breather third from the right in the Boonen pick should be the next avatar bet.

I would say Sky are a better all-round team but OPQS have raced very well all year, they failed last year- except for Chavanel. They were unlucky in P-N with Levi and Tony with injuries.
Sky were better- they won the TDF.
I still cannot get over how much Skys' leaders failed at M-SR/ P-R.

Most impressive ride of the year - Boonen at Paris-Roubaix
Best rider of the season (to date) - Boonen (Wiggins had a great year but what Boonen did had never been done before)
Best team all round - Sky
Greater team cohesion - OPQS (actually won some TTTs, 17 race winners (5 wins the same day even if it is the NC is pretty awesome too) vs 13 for Sky)

Isn't it a bit early for this kind of comparison though ?

Who exactly has won P-N, Romandie, Dauphine, the Tour and Olympic Gold in one year?

What exactly do P-N, Romandie and Dauphiné have in common to be grouped together?

Back in the 70s Midi Libre and Tour de Suisse were more prestigious than Dauphiné. Also the Vierdaagse van Duinkerke was very prestigious back then.

E3 Harelbeke, Gent-Wevelgem, Ronde van Vlaanderen and Paris-Roubaix take place around the same time, have always been prestigious(except E3 Harelbeke which is more prestigious now than 40 years ago) and all 4 races are famous for their cobbles.

Gent-Wevelgem, Ronde van Vlaanderen and Paris-Roubaix have only been won by 2 riders in the same season: Rick van Looy and Tom Boonen.

E3 Harelbeke, Gent-Wevelgem, Ronde van Vlaanderen and Paris-Roubaix has only been won by one rider in the same season: Tom Boonen.

He's also the record holder of all 4 races.

Let's be honest, all those stages races Wiggins won were because of the many time trial kilometers. They were just boring and there was little real racing involved.

As for Olympic Gold: the Olympics have only been open for professionals since 1996. The WC/Olympic time trial didn't even exist until the 90s.

Richeypen's point was that just like Boonen winning E3, Gent-Wevelgem, Ronde, and Roubaix; winning paris-nice, Romandie, the Dauphine, and the Tour had also never been done before.

With the cobbles, those are the best 4 races you can win. There's a lot more variety with stage races. I can think of many things that only one rider has won in the same season, but it wouldn't make sense to mention many of them.

A Giro d'Italia - Tour de France double would be worth mentioning however.

P-N had less than 20kms of TTing, and more than half of those were up Col d'Eze, the traditional way to end the race.

Romandie, similarly, had less than 20kms of TTing, although I take your point that the other stages were hardly selective.

Take all of the TTing out of the Tour, which was far, far less kms than would have been typical 20 years ago, and Wiggins would still have won the race.

And besides, since when does TTing not have a relevance to stage racing?

Honestly, if you can just admit that Wiggins was the best all round rider this year, then your healing process can begin.

Wiggins was the best stage race rider this year. I would call Purito the best all round rider. Won a classic, got a podium in Giro and Vuelta.

Wiggins and Boonen belong in second and third place, which also happen to be their places in the CQranking.

But this is about teams and then it is clearly Sky. Could have even done better if they hadn't sold the olympic title to Vino.

Wiggo won long TTs, a MTT and did well in short TTs (including 2nd in the Tour prologue).

He was the 2nd best climber and best last but one lead out man in the biggest race of the year.

He won races from February to August, and just about every month in between.

He won the yellow jersey, a gold medal and even a large bunch sprint in a WT race.

Purito did well when the road went uphill.
