He's got a thick Kiwi accent, surprised to hear he's an Aussie!
So was this also the pair on the CBC stream?
Thanks. So....they're both Australians, again, no kiwi. Can't understand how a former pro be so confused in commentary box.
So was this the pair that also were on the CBC stream? Does Scott McGrory sound a bit like Rhys Darby? Cause that was some, ummm, interesting commentating he was doing

The group that got over Mikuni along with or ahead of Van Aert, after he has already led the chase ever since Pogacar attacked, was 13 riders, with the group Moscon, Van Baarle, Yates 2, not far behind. And a single rider a dozen meters behind. That's 19 riders that still all needed to be controlled. Drop the pace, they get back. Don't respond to attacks and wait for others to do the work, and the race can be over. Luckily, you have hindsight 20/20. He gambled, nobody wanted to chase Carapaz/McNulty, so he finally did it himself.

Thank you for posting this actually. It quite proves my point. The fact that you need to bring it up again, shows how invested you were (/are). Apparently i'm not allowed to have an opinion on a Danish rider's chances without getting harassed with avatar/signature bets.
You are making Netserk out to bechauvinistic which he is FAR from. Maybe you have him confused with that overly chauvinistic danish dude that got banned, Broccolidwarf? Generally on this forum, the Danes are quite indifferent to which passport these riders are carrying in their bags, at least thats how it seems to me (me, Netserk, Toby, Redhead etc)... which you dont seem to be at all, lets be honest here. Most of us just like great racing, well, I cant only speak for myself, but I have that impression of the other Danes on this forum. And well, thats not a knock on you, thats just how is it and theres absolutely nothing wrong with that. But you playing that card is rather weird to me, especially up against Netserk.

Apparently, Logic will only give you a laughing emoji reaction if you say that Netserk is not nationalistic. Which I think he is the guy who is furthest from on the forum. I really didn't understand that at all.

Of course logic and Netserk are mortal enemies but still, it seems a bit silly.

I think Logic just really, really likes Wout and Remco (and Van Wilder) and every time he enters a discussion surrounding either one of those he gets so into it that he loses it a little bit and starts to think less of his "opponent" if he dares not agree on a point regarding one of his favourite riders. Sorry, Logic, I know it's annoying to be analysed like that (but it also pissed me off when you arrogantly dismissed my post with a laughing reaction, so there we are), but when you begin saying that Netserk is nationalistic, there is clearly something wrong. If anything, I would call Netserk a Fuglsang hater (based on previous years, I haven't followed the forum as closely as usually this summer).

Also, a proposition of an avatar bet falls quite a bit short of harrassment...

Maybe you guys should go back and read what the initial discussion was about. Like i said in another thread (the one Netserk linked to), he always has the same modus operandi, and frankly it's getting really tiresome and not even worth getting into anymore. It's ok for him to make fun of riders, to ridicule other posters or kick whoever's shin he feels like kicking, but when actual content and arguments are asked, or when he is called out, he starts doing his shtick. He made an asinine statement that Van Aert should have chased down Carapaz, but not Fuglsang. Like, wtf is this guy smoking? Van Aert chased down whatever he could, got ganged up on by a dozen other riders who had only one goal: get rid of him. But somehow Van Aert should have foreseen that after countering half a dozen attacks from Mollema, Fuglsang, Pogacar etc, that he really shouldn't have done any of that, no, he should have kept his powder dry for when Carapaz attacked. Obviously, right. Due to the "WTF" nature of the statement, i simply asked whether the reasoning behind it had something to do with the nationality of one of the riders.

Where i come from, cheering for a countryman, doesn't make you a nationalist. But apparently, to Netserk it means exactly that. So it is not in the slightest as funny as it is surprising, that you would call me out for claiming Netserk is a nationalist, while that is exactly his own statement considering the context. I never made that statement. Somehow i don't think Netserk really understands what being a nationalist means, but that's another discussion we shouldn't be having on a cycling forum. So, as previously described, this is the point where Netserk will start diluting the conversation with smokescreens and will try to derail the initial conversation. The usual. And apparently it works, because he gets you guys to fight his battles for him, to the point that you actually believed this was about me claiming he was a nationalist. Good of you to help out your countryman, but be careful because that could be perceived as nationalist.

Anyway, usually a discussion with Netserk, as soon as he gets uncomfortable, starts to be a series of one-liners, and drive-by "wit". Like "Balls, not bollocks" or "Tell me more about <insert kindergarten rhetoric>". It would all be very funny if it weren't so tragic. This is the same guy who calls out others who disagree with him, with "i thought we could be having a mature conversation" (hilarious really). I also have never seen him say "thank you for correcting me after posting bullsht", which appears to be what he expects from posters who he himself corrects (or thinks he corrects), i'm not making this up. No love lost, but none of that has anything to do with me "losing it". I simply hate hypocrites, and a guy being first in line to point fingers, to ridicule, to insult, should man up an stop acting like a pussy when he himself gets called out for his crap. But he doesn't like it when the shoe is on the other foot and he wonders why conversations have to get so personal.

Carapaz and McNulty attack was just well-timed. A move like that was always gonna be the winning move here.

They got a gap while everybody looked at each other.

Of course the group did not cooperate. Not when they had Van Aert and Pog in it, who still got 2nd and 3rd from all that work they did.
That was a Mollema type attack!! :)
But seriously these type of 1 days races are usually won like this.

Even though it didn’t play out so they were all riding for the gold after they let McNulty/Carapaz get away, it was a very exciting delicious to have such a monster final group of classics specialists, the two-time reigning Tour champion, 5 former monument/Worlds winners (van Aert, Fuglsang, Kwiatkowski, Bettiol, Podgacar), and other big classics winners.. In fact, McNulty attacked when he did because he looked around and saw that he was the only one that didn’t have the class of the rest of that group, and didn’t fit in ;)

Most of them tried solo for 3rd place, which is probably the most you can hope for. Most of them could not win anything as Carapaz and McNulty got 20s. They were lucky McNulty even exploded. And there was not only Van Aert to work over. If it goes to a group sprint you're probably sprinting for 3rd at best vs Van Aert and Pogacar.
Bingo, this is why I'm mystified Woods (for example) simply sat up as soon as someone bridged instead of working together to extend the gap over Van Aert. It's like they wanted solo or nothing, this is why I'm glad Pogacar wasn't able to successfully Gerrans Van Aert

Did anyone watch feed with two Australians, one male and one female? Who were they? The guy was so weird (kept looking for Australian in every group, Fulgeslang, Roberto Uran, Richard Gaudu from Spain, WvA is favorite for the sprint but that's just because you never saw anyone else sprinting since they making career of winning uphill, etc.). His female partner was okayish but never made any attempt to correct him and just lived in her own world.

Anyway, really happy for Carapaz, was irritated by him at the Tour, not for long.
Scary thing is that was Scott McGrory, a former pro and 2 x Olympian on the track. His co-commentator was Anna Meares, who I'm sure you've all heard of. Again as a trackie, shouldn't really be on the road race.

Meanwhile Phil Liggett was probably the best of the three, which made me glad I found the commentary free stream on 7+

Frankly I don't give a *** whether Netserk is my countryman or not or wherever he was born and raised...

Maybe a way for two favourites (in this case Van Aert and Pogacar) to handle a situation like the one 30 kilometers from the finish line would be to join forces and make a coordinated attack. We've seen Van Aert do this with van der Poel in other situations. By attacking together, they can prevent having to close down the inevitable series of attacks from all the others, while still being a strong duo that can keep a gap to the pursuers.

The second best thing would be to go alone.

If the top favourites decide on just closing everything down within the last 30 kilometers, there will always be a very big risk of running out of fuel and not being able to respond to one of the attacks.

In regards to the Australian commentary I didn't particularly mind Scott and Anna (though she did talk up Porte's chances too much, yet this is fairly common for all Aussie commentators), but obviously would prefer Matt Keenan, and especially Robbie McEwan (for a sprinter he has surprising high knowledge and interest in GC). However, they are with SBS; the Olympics are on channel 7.

Robbie McEwen is one smart mofo on the bike - Zabel, Cipo, Petacchi, O'Grady etc have all said he's the wiliest sprinter they ever faced. Would make a phenomenal DS in the car on race day.

Wow, there was a commentary-free stream on 7+? I'll be looking out for that in the future! (or did you mean a free stream with commentary on 7+?) Still TIZ did me okay, something about Brian Smith's voice makes it easy to tune out it if he rabbits on too much and Matt Stephens is fine.

Yep, 7+ had a totally uninterrupted, ad free, commentary free, Liggett free stream. Just set yourself a free account and you're away.

No missing attacks just so you can hear Matt Shirvington and Johanna Griggs waffle on about nothing in the studio.

(Nothing against them but the should stick to talking about sprinting and swimming respectively - good commentators, average hosts)
