Conclusion of this race: Lars Boom should be in prison for mismanagement.
I don't like Lars Boom, and I think if anyone is a poor choice for a coach it's him, since he couldn't even motivate himself. That being said... Vas has been in great form around the Worlds before, so in that sense it's not really anything new.

Another race where Ava Holmgren was on the start sheet the day before but didn't line up. I hope she's not suffering any concussion issues from her crash at Zonhoven.

Yeah, Vas knows how to peak for a big race; she's done it before.....So both SD Worx's CX riders both win a World Cup this season....got to be good for the team.
I thought Zoe was going to do it at several points, but the 2nd is good, and looked strong. However, the long wait for a British women's Elite World Cup win goes on......

Could have had a race if Wout could stay on his bike.
Yeah, though wihtout the issues, he would still be maybe only 30 seconds closer, as Mathieu is taking 8 or so seconds per lap, some of which is due to his caution on a couple of the sharp downhills, and bike changes.

Both Van der Poel and Van Aert have done little CX training lately yet, the former puts 1:14min into the latter that crashed three times, striking difference between the two of them.

Niewenhuis looking good to repeat last year's Worlds podium after a very difficult season.

And Mathieu did not have a single mistake. Perfect race in terms of technical riding, for him. If Wout had been closer, I think he would have had even more mistakes. When Mathieu pushed hard today, his tires maintained grip. Wout, not as much.

Wout looking thinner as well. Spring is looking to be a challenge anytime he races Mathieu, but we can hope that he has an inspired ride at Roubaix. I don't think Flanders is realistically anyone but Mathieu or Pog's race...and more than likely Pog isn't going to be challenged by anyone. I am not a fan, but here's to hoping Pog takes Mathieu's cookies anytime they race against each other. It'll be nice to see him with a sad look on his face.

Not really though. MVDP without really seeming to go all out took about 10 secs per lap.

Wout got a bit too eager, but MVDP hadn't really started his race yet.
Looking at the lap times, it appears you're correct. No one came close to matching what MVDP did on his first 3 full laps (laps 2-4).

What has Mathieu ever done to you?
