And the five unused riders could ride in the teamcars and be used as substitutes coming on to replace other riders as needed. Each team could have two substitutes per stage, but I would also bring in yellow and red cards for doing stupid stuff.

Yes, I know that ideas silly, but no less silly than the idea i Quoted.

Grand Tours are endurance events. Allowing these types of substitutions completely changes everything they've represented over the past 100 years or so. There is no road cycling event that allows substitutions. Once the race starts, whoever pulls out from the start line that is it and that applies to the start/1st stage/prologue of stage races.

There is a reason there hasn't been much flexibility on this topic.

Yeah babeee! That would've been interesting, especially in the early stages and when Contador and Sanchez went on the attack.

He probably would have put Gilbert in his rightful place on Stage 1!

Why is everyone arguing teams should be reduced? The point of the original post was asking who is that one rider you would like to see if they were allowed one extra rider. He wasn't arguing that the Tour should expand to ten member teams. Am I the only one that has picked up on this?

I apologize for straying from the subject at hand.

I would have loved to have seen:

-Anton on Euskaltel w/ Samu wreaking havoc in the mountains.
-Dan Martin on Garmin-Cervelo
-Freire (Rabobank) freelancing in the sprints and following Hushovd on his attacks to make Thor's attempts at stage wins even more interesting and entertaining

No worries, just making a general observation more than calling anybody out. I too deviated from script

Anyway, I agree with Anton on Euskatel. That would have made an interesting pair to counter Frandy, not to mention adding to the Spanish alliance of Samu and AC.

If you read some of Polish's posts you probably wouldn't be thanking me!:D

Yeah, I'm familiar with that particular Lance Fanboy. Maybe you could clue me in: is he the guy that used to go by the handle 'Ban Pro Cycling' or is that an entirely different troll.

I believe he's an entirely different posting catastrophe. He and Flicker are the Beavis and Butthead of CN in my opinion.

He was added to the ignore list ages ago :p

I've never understood the compulsion to put someone on the 'ignore' list. Why would you want to deny yourself the chance to have a little chuckle or a smirk at someone else's expense? For instance, I feel lost if I go more than a couple days without hearing at least a snippet of Glen Beck's insanity.

One that I would choose would be someone like Rasmussen from HTC-Highroad to sit on Cav's wheel to force other teams to make their own trains and such.

They had Matt Goss. He had never been in the leadout train before, so surely if they wanted someone to ride that role, he was the man?
