raulalcala2.jpg

Already the author of a brief return in the fall of 2008, at the Tour of Chihuahua, Raul Alcala wants to start the next Tour of Mexico (2.2 - 18 to 24/04).
The Mexican professional racer plans to make public his final decision Monday, April 6. He is currently negotiating with potential partners willing to fund his second comeback.
For the record the first return of former 7-Eleven and PDM racer, Chihuahua had ended, after a fall during the 2nd stage.

I didn't notice this thread first time around, but it's great to see Raul still riding strong. He was a big favourite of mine in the late 80s early 90s. I heard he was riding again but he clearly has big Mexican plans.

I notice a couple of posters (TFF, Krebs) on this thread have shown their ignorance. Raul was the bomb. Spa 89.

Here the hero of the ’80s is still a big draw.

Sunday, Alcalá was among the cast of riders to do the Road Rash.

Raul: “Money is not a problem. My life is still very good here in México,” Alcalá explained to VeloNews when asked why he too was attempting coming back. “But my life is cycling, and I got a little bug in my head. That is when I knew I wanted to come back.”

“I know I will be one of the older guys but my body feels like new now,” said Alcalá, who has just a tiny hint of grey in his otherwise thick, short-cropped black hair. “I have never stopped riding the bike. I’ve been training hard, but done no real race of late. So I have the power but not the rhythm. I hope it can be like it was before, but first I need to see what happens in road race. After that we see if I am the captain of the domestique for world in Geelong.”

“He’s pretty confident. He’s not super thin, but he says he’s been training hard and plans to race the Tour next year. At least that’s what he said.”

a brutal here ... that's what he is ...
