Richie Porte - what do we know about him?

Page 112 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
“When I was on Saxo Bank, we used to ride past the Sky guys on rollers thinking ‘what a bunch of numpties’ and now what team’s not on the rollers after the stage?” Porte said. “I think in a few years’ time everyone’s going to have RVs.”

The fun continues with Brailsford:

The one thing I’m worried about is if any of you have a cold and you put your hand on the door to open it, and then Richie comes in and opens his door, then he’ll get sick. There’s a gel by the door, so if you gel your hands, you can all go and have a look. There’s no issue, there’s nothing to hide in there,”

I like how sky have to keep inventing these absurd stories to fool bots. Everyone is warming down now so we need a new marginal gain.. hmm how about Ferraris doping caravan? surely that will work?!

man I really hope Walsh can write a book about Porte too.

I just wanted to post this gem again.. any chance Walsh could write a book about Porte?

This is actually worse than Tyler Hamilton's twin story. I don't think any doper has ever come up with less scientifically plausible crap than Froome above claiming him and Porte are physiologically immune from the need to recover.

Other than Froome's Bilharzia story of course. That was the only thing that comes to mind that was less scientific.

Let me get this straight:

Richie is highly likely to catch a cold or get sick If someone enters "Loft" without proper sanitation, rather than being exposed to rain, snow, wind or the combination of them all when he's riding.......

what if he hand shakes a rider and forgets to wash it before he enters into his "room"

I mean.....

I wonder if they have been keeping a hold on Porte's marginal gains the first half of the race?

It certainly seems to be a new approach to be more reactive in a GC bid...

Maybe the team and Porte is just no better right now...

I do have a suspicion though, that they will go full mantle in third week... Fulfulling the outlined prophecy of Kerrison that Porte is now a concistent GC rider...

?

I think the only thing they have been monitoring is the press to see if this *** will fly as a PR stunt for Froome in July.

My hope is that all the usual sycophantic pro Armstrong/Sky press will be selling it as another reasons for sky's superness (I don't read that ***, but why wouldn't they, they have sold far more idiotic arguments before), and this will convince them to run with it :D

Now that Ressiot is working with OCLAESP, I dearly hope they do indeed bring the "motorhome" to the TdF in July for Dawg.

The opposite of "don't do something new in a race" is not "never do anything new" / "do the same old thing". That's illogical.

Let me break it down for you: you test new food / drink / shoes / equipment, etc, etc, in training. Prove that it works and improves something. Or at the very least does not diminish something. Then you use it in a race.

Inside Team Sky is full of Walsh ranting at the doping accusations. And here we see Sky doing their utmost to appear different and draw attention and blah blah blah Ferrari used his vehicle for doping, US Postal stopped on the side of the road to do a transfusion in their van. Are you even aware of these things and the potential for suspicion this move from Sky raises?
Third overall, Porte said in a press conference on Monday afternoon he had had “a nice short ride” on the rest day, and was feeling relaxed. He had been riding on the time trial bike, too, and has a new set of handlebars in from Pinarello which he was testing out prior to using them for the first time in live action on Saturday.

He did look to be struggling a bit..

Maybe the rest day didn't serve him well..

Too many Press visits in his RV?

No time for charging batteries?.

Maybe he is sick again...

He has been pressuring his body full hard since his season started...

The giro (and his season) has been very hard so far , so maybe the one restday made his body react to overwhelming pressure he has apllied to it?

Looking strong all week, then suddenly much weaker compared to to the peloton after the rest day...hm.

Could it be that everyone topped up with bag or two except lil Richie who believed in the 2011 gentleman's agreement that the era of doping over?

That does not explain why he kept on losing his teammates wheel.

He could have burned his matches already...

Been going full hard all season followed by a pretty crazy first half of Giro -then comes a rest day and the body says full stop......

the body rule of thumb procycling lore, takes one or two or a few days to acclimatise/find equilibrium with the new blood. It is why riders wont do the bloodbag the day before the Queen stage, you do it 3 days before the Queen stage. Richie's body might have had a shock from a good bloodbag yesterday, technically, he is riding with more O2, but the body is in a state of shock from the infusion of new redcells

i dont reckon Richie has the legs to win, even if different GC riders have different blood refills, Richie has beeen picking of the smaller races like Romandie and Nice, and even if he timed his build for July or the Festival of May, I dont think he is GT winner material.

And his chrono will be less effective than has been touted, the weightloss will be like Hroner who became a mediocre tt rider after Cali in about 2011 cos of the weightloss. Yes Richie won nationals and beat Rohan Dennis, but Richie will struggle for the podium this Giro imo.

Maybe I have missed something but I think Richie lacks the killer instinct. He has had plenty of opportunities to light it up this week and potentially put Bertie to the sword, but it seems he has to wait for Aru to attack till he does something. That said I fully I expect that he will be in full alien mode from Tuesday onwards.

Richie does not have the ability everyone gives him credit for. 2013 TdF was a high-water mark.

I dont think Richie has it to even make the podium
