So basically he had the power to just catch Quintana at will despite deliberately giving him a headstart.

Rocket fuel is very good for sky this tour, very good because undoubtedly the rest have some good stuff as well but Sky seemed to have got the mix perfect this time.
He has been rolling in on every stage while Quintana has had to fight for every second, he has been hiding in the peloton waiting for the mountains, that is his job. He was not on the front for long before Froome attacked, Thomas did the bulk of the work. Porte did the same in 2013. Valverde did not help Quintana at all. Movistar's tactics were ***. Porte did not complete the Giro and soft pedaled for a few days after his chances were gone and he hurt his knee. Contador's fatigue is more understandable.
If Porte hasn't been fighting for every second and is 44 minutes down then that also means hr had no motivation. Quintana was fighting for gc, needed to go as far into the pain barrier as he could. Porte is down on gc and couldn't even get the stage since froome was in front.
Well yes, but in that case, you'd think Porte would ease up after doing his job.Dear Wiggo said:Probably more to keep as much energy for the following day(s).
Yesterday was the most fun I had watching cycling in since 2013 Roubaix. I wanted nothing more than for Porte to complete the 1-2 because that was a lot funnier than if he had come 20th.movingtarget said:The Hitch said:Lol omg. Domestiques are just as motivated ? Nationalism ? Yes it's painful for you when an Anglo wins anything, I have noticed, it's seems that even second places cause major chafing.

Perhaps to get the polka dot jersey?
Or Porte did what he wanted for Better _Contract negotiations?

I just literally spat my coffee out laughing at that, both LRP's hubris and Ferrari's response.
I agree with others that Porte will eventually be the one that blows the wheels off this whole sorry spectacle because he's just too dumb not to. He seems to have that same feeling of security/invicibility about him that characterised the Postal approach.
I remember when he revealed he'd beaten the Dawg's own Armstrong-beating time up Madone by a further 29 seconds (allegedly 29:40 lest we forget) my first thought was 'even if you had done that, what kind of idiot would actually put it out in the public domain'. Being a minute faster up Madone than the most dope-fuelled rider in the history of the sport isn't really a claim to fame that any pro with half a brain would want these days but he just doesn't seem to be able to rein himself in.

On paper the stages seem very demanding ,
but as always it will be the aggressive behavior of the runners and the climatic conditions to determine the hardness of the competition .
Froome was in the lead and it seems the stronger uphill , especially if the race is resolved in the last km climb .
Its powerful engine probably consumes a lot and your opponents will try to impose a high rate away from the finish to dry up his tank .
