Lol EBH didnt chase after Sagan because he had to ride for Kristoff at all cost. What a bunch of stupid twats at #TeamNorway.

I know it's crazy. They may have bridged across had he worked and at least guaranteed a medal.
Have to wonder why Gerrans wasn't chasing either.
Its Gerrans, hes literally unable to accelerate untill 100 meters before the finish line.
AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

I understand and respect that you don't like Sagan and his personality. But that doesn't mean that the sport is dying because the way he acts. I mean, you can't say the way he cycles is a bad thing. He always wants to go full gas. This championship he doesn't have another choice that waiting, because he didn't had a team.
Hence why I amended what I was saying from that the sport was dying to that the sport was dying "to me". The already blanket coverage he gets is only going to be exacerbated by the rainbow jersey, and while he won this championship by racing the right race and by attacking, the additional coverage and attention he's going to be getting from the sycophantic commentators and the hype on the forum is going to make a whole further set of races unwatchable to the point where I simply won't watch them, as all that will happen is I'll get into arguments.

I haven't been so excited watching a live performance since seeing Greg win on the Champs Elysees. SAGAN! Yes!!!!!!!!!!! This is the world champion we have been waiting for! This is what a world champion should be! Maybe he is a d$ck off the bike, but he is the ultimate bike racer.

Somebody really need to tell this dude, that he was once one of the most promising talents. He wasted years at team Sky and now this.[/quote]

He had more power left he said and could've followed Sagan or at least go for silver but EBH is stupid tactically sometimes. He knew before they started that he was plan B. He said that himself in an interview just before the start. I don't know what he was thinking waiting for Kristoff to sprint when he was so far behind. I bet he didn't even know Kristoff made the last climb together with the peleton. Kristoff even said to EBH he could go for it if he had the legs and he wasn't there, so unfortunately I think this was all Edvald's mistake.

I don't get all the hate for Matthews. He's by no means a new 'Gerrans'. Surely he isn't so exciting, but he's very talented. Why not hate all 2nd tier sprinters then?

Yeah - People conveniently forgot Matthews he attacked on the Poggia in Milan San Remo and chased down down Gilbert on the last climb in Amstel Gold.

I am convinced some posters don't actually watch cycling !

He's not really a ***. There are just way too many overly sensitive people who spend their day looking for things to get offended by. Sagan is awesome and a breath of fresh air instead of all the normal riders who only give the standard politically correct answers in every interview.

Best world champion in a long time.

then dont argue...at this point most ppl are just trolling you because quite frankly nobody gives a f if you watch cycling or not

reacting to what ppl think about your choices is just a waste of time for anyone except the troll

I didn't really follow the news much the last couple months, what did he do again?
Groped a podium girl

You don't put that right.
He sexually assaulted the podium girl, while making it look like a joke. Like it's just what you do, sexually assault women for fun, as if that was the most normal and ok thing to do.
Grope in my mind is really negative, so that's how I used it

I don't like Sagan's personality one bit, but at least he's a rider of sufficient status to be world champ. So kinda like Hushovd. I can work with this.

This sums up my thoughts. I can't fault how Sagan performs on the bike for someone of his physical abilities. Today he played his cards 100% perfect and deserves total respect for that. But wearing the Rainbow jersey I just hope he behaves himself off the bike or else that will be cringe-worthy for everyone.
What on earth has he done in the past two seasons for anyone to think he isn't going to "behave himself"?

The podium incident was inexcusable, but that was 2 and a half years ago now. With hindsight it's pretty clear that he has grown up and is completely inoffensive these days.
He spat at the medical car after his crash in the Vuelta

Did he do it again?

If you're talking about the one from a few years ago, she didn't do anything, she didn't really mind it.

I'll just briefly note that Sagan was the bookmakers' favourite. Yet another victory for market, not infallible, but least fallible of anyone who predicts.

With who? I put my bet on before the race (about 1pm) and Paddy Power, Ladbrokes and Hills all had Kristoff as favourite. Sagan was similar odds to GVA, Degenkolb and Stybar
I checked mid race about 100km from the finish, Betfair had sagan in the lead at 6/1. I think. But the pre race odds are what I'm talking about most of the time so I was wrong. Market got it wrong, still the best predictor though. ;)

no, she got a few newspapers interviews and a bunch of flowers and apologies from Sagan on the starting podium during the next race organized by Flanders Classics

Seems like she accepted his apology. Maybe people should let it slide then and worry about their own butts.

Which is actually quite funny. All those way too sensitive people were so busy being offended on her behalf but she didn't really care.

People act like it's the only reason given for disliking Sagan, when in fact it's more or less everything about the way he acts and comports himself, of which that particular incident (which wasn't an isolated incident anyway, he attempted the same thing at E3 just before that) is just the most obvious and egregious example. I'd despise him even without that.

And hey, maybe it just came down to who was the podium girl that day whether they were offended, upset or felt taken advantage of or whatever. Maybe if he'd succeeded in doing it at E3 that podium girl would have seen it differently. Opinions of him for doing that should not be only dependent on the recipient.

Since winter is coming and the season is ending, I'll be warming my hands over heat being produced by the Sagan haters comments. By all means complain more!

Those two podium misses are the same in every race in Belgium and have been for 5 years.

not that this adds anything to the discussion :p

Sadly, a lot of people don't see it that way and use it, or have used it in Sagans context, to relativise his actions. So not to attack you, but to semanticly be clear, I pointed out that this is sexual assault. It's not going to get better if this isn't made as clear as possible.
