The problem is that Fuglsang was all hyped up by Riis in 2009, as being Denmark's next great climber. He's actually never showed anything promising in the high mountains, he's just a good hilly rider and a reasonable tt'er. That crash in the Vuelta btw wasn't as serious as it looked, he just needed some stitches. Imo he rode a good Vuelta in 2009, going on the attack several times.

He really needs a team where he can go ftw in smaller stage races and classics, those should be his main goal instead of GT's.

Yeah, that´s the way it was. He won a lot in 2005, and like you said, stayed amateur with Orbea in 2006, won a lot again, and commited suicide after this season, in October 2006.

I think of him oftenly when I hear from the guys who were at his age, and who became really good pros over the last years.

Sergio Paulinho: u23 bronze on the itt championships, great results in the volta with LA-Pecol, only rider that managed to follow bettini's attack in Athens getting silver.

moves to liberty seguros and manolo saiz says he has a next gear in him that if he finds it could turn him into a contender for the hilly classics, he showed a few glimpses of class on the 2006 vuelta getting a stage win from the break and riding a great race as a domestique for vino but then he never found that next gear and has become a really average.

What about Jokin Ormaetxea? Winner of Subida a Gorla 2003 and to date the only double winner of Subida a Urraki. On his day he would give anyone fits in the mountains. A shame we never ever got to see him really shine as a professional. Another true tragedy!

Yes, because he's been at the same level for 4 years already and this year is at a worse level than last year... I don't see him jumping to the level predicted when he won Tour de Suisse

So he has a top 10 every year (and improving), yet he's bombing? Shall we wait untill the season is over? He already won his first GT stage this year., so obviously his year isn't nearly as bad as you make it out to be.

It could be that YOU expected he would be Merckx2, but realistically, Roman is having a good career which is nowhere near bombing.

Roman simply doesn't belong on that list.

LBL and le tour are way bigger than all those stage races.
Its not always about the quantity of wins but the quality.

No. Of course not. Fyi, I used to like him back in 2009. But then he became the annoying whiny arrogant brat he is now.

I actually think he had found some decent form in Suisse, he was climbing pretty well. But he got knee problems, I think?

Hmm, when he was fighting to keep pink against the likes of doper Di Luca. But yes his bad days during GTs are to bad although it seemed as he was getting slightly more consistent. But last year and this year he seems to be more prone to sickness and injuries and in a team like Sky he doesn't get to many races to be captain. T-A, where he became sick and now TdS with knee probs.

Giro 2009 was okay for Thomas until it become 35C and he lost like 20 minutes.He is always good in spring time when it is a bit chilly in the air,he just cant ride well when it gets to hot.
Unfourtunately for him they dont bike that much during January-March in Europe...

well, in the dauphine 2009, his first year as pro, he was fifth on the queen stage to ventoux and sixth ind the gc. That must be a really promising accomplishment for a neopro. he also won tour de slovenia that year.
