Sean Kelly might be one of the few riders to ride against both Eddy Merckx and his superior son, Axel. Both Kelly and Axel Merckx rode Catalunya in 1993 and Driedaagse De Panne in 1994.
you can find the full list of participants from 2014 via archive.orgDoes anybody know which ex-pros rode l'Eroica in 2014? There's the potential for something unique there as there might be people who rode against both Gerrie and Roxane Knetemann as a result, but the only photos of pros I can find there are of the Rabo girls in their period costume and PFP in Gerrie's old rainbow jersey.

So, I got curious and did a bit of snooping around. There are a bunch of riders in the pro peloton who have been riding against both a father and his son. Here are a few examples:
Mauri and Wim Vansevenant (any riders who turned pro in 2008 or earlier)
Rick and Erik Zabel (same as above)
Pavel and Alexei (2005 or earlier)
Anyone who can think of others (doesn't have to involve currently active riders)?
If you have both raced against a PCS clone and the rider, who was orignally cloned, would that count?
Malcolm Elliott was a teammate at Fagor of Stephen Roche in 1988. In 2009, at the age of 48 he raced in the Tour of Britain against Nicolas (coming 16th on GC). The year before he had raced against his nephew Dan Martin.
So which father and son couples (both professionals) have not had anyone race against both of them? To start with has there been such a father and son couple were both of them has started a GT?
On the former, I'm having a hard time tracing anybody that might have raced against Hans-Jürgen Geschke (a track rider who retired in the late 70s) and his son Simon, since Jürgen was 42 when Simon was born and they specialised in completely different types of racing. Matthias Kittel rode for SC Turbine Erfurt in the early 80s but retired in 1984 so it's unlikely anybody who rode against him rode against Marcel. So which father and son couples (both professionals) have not had anyone race against both of them? Well, if we look at father-son couples where the father was only a pro for a short time, we could find some extra. So which father and son couples (both professionals) have not had anyone race against both of them? Joop Zoetemelk was both teammates with and rode against Raymond Poulidor and Adrie van der Poel.
But did he also ride against Corinne Poulidor?![]()

Sylvain Chavanel too. Going by PCS he rode against a Madouas in both his first and last road races as a pro.Stijn Devolder rode against Laurent Madouas and Valentin Madouas.
