Indeed, it seems that he lost control over his bike because of old train tracks and a bus couldn't avoid him.

It DOES seem like we are seeing more road accidents while training the past couple of years. I wonder if we really are, or if it is just it is now getting coverage and didn't used to?

I think it's more that the outcomes are more tragic. There have always been training accidents, but a few years ago you had Jonny Bellis' horrific accident, and the car crash that left Marina Romoli in a wheelchair, but both of these got plenty of attention for being the worst injuries we'd seen in some time. But ever since Carla Swart was killed by a car in January 2011, it seems like almost every time we've heard of a car accident involving a rider, the result has been death. We've had Burry Stander, Victor Cabedo, Amy Dombrowski and now Kristof Goddaert killed while riding and Arnaud Coyot killed in a car accident as a passenger all in the last 13 months. And it was an accident involving a car in the broader sense that caused the death of Xavier Tondó in 2011 too.
