He had great legs. If he had stayed with the front two then mvdp and him may have made the last kms very interesting. Which they were most certainly not

Van der Poel should've done more to make sure Evenepoel caught them after the Koppenberg, and Evenepoel shouldn't have pushed on post Kwaremont. I don't think MvdP went all out to keep the gap but half committing was still qorse than not committing, if only ro make sure Evenepoel got back on.

That said, if Evenepoel had got back on, then Pogacar would've just attacked on the Taaienberg. Still, may as well make it harder for him – it was obvious that Pogacar was concerned about Remco, so lean into it. MvdP actually rode the Kwaremont smartly but Pogacar is just a level above.

Feel like "respectable" is underselling it a bit, no? I thought he was outstanding. Couldn't really have asked for more. Hell of a fight at the end.

Couldn't agree more about the cobbled races. He made this race a lot better.

He's raced three times this year. It's nice to see UAE give this Slovenian neo-pro a slow and gradual introduction to WT racing. If he needs a break for two weeks every time he races, then I am not sure he will make it as a GT rider, but maybe he could become the next Špilak in the future.

So the top5 was the expected top5 before the race. Personally I'd picked Wout before Remco, but still everything went pretty much (sadly) as expected.

"I knew I would be lacking something on the climbs after the injury"

"I rode more conservatively today, I knew I had to save myself for the climbs, and it still it wasn't enough"

"It's weird to say I'm happy with 5th, but I am, and with a week more in the legs I'll be ready for Roubaix"

The top 5 is the Top 5. they were the strongest in that order.
That said, the numbers 2 and 3, especially number 2 could have ridden a better race so as to create a chance to nullify the fact that number 1 is the strongest. Rider 2 does not seem to realise he could have ridden it differently given his interview. Moto's once again decided to help the strongest rider in the race as if he needed it....

number 4 rode a near perfect race, except being to far during 1 early moment.

I'll try not to fall in repeat in this thread so i'll end it here.
