he is not explosive and he isn't good in placing himself often
But yeah, guys well known for their punch like Basso, Gadret or Kreuziger are all there, and massively strong and in form Rujano loses time (no need to say that Rocca di Cambio isnt that much punchy climb) maybe even wheelsucking De Gendts wheel... But maybe he was ill, or had mechanical, I dont know.

he's very much crrap on the downhills and bad at positioning.the bad thing is also that he's not explosive at all(he's like ullrich).so when he lose the favourites wheels on a finish like that,he starts the climb somewhere in 45th position.climbing with sheer power won't get him back to them..
of course it's a bad thing but he seems that he doesn't care about it.

we'll see what he really can do on cervinia.

what i saw last year, i do belive Rujano is the strongest climber of them all, but I don't know if he got the mentality to go alone up the mountains? last year he had Conta to push himself, and to fight with. What does he do this year?

He was first to attack on Etna and Grossglockner, and attacked 483720 times on Finestre.

on etna he already had a 25-30 seconds gap when alberto attacked.he can do it on his own.also on finestre he put 1'45 on the favourites group.it won't be a problem.

he actually is incredible solo on mountains. check his mountain itt results, even out of shape like in 2008 he was amazing in them. also he has done many solo attacks in the mountains. last year finestre forgotten?

exactly this. and on grossglockner he did most of the work and not contador. the 2 minutes he's down now will melt like snow under the sun in a mountain finish

Before the Tour 2006 there was an article in the Belgian newspaper 'Het Nieuwsblad' about Rujano.

http://www.nieuwsblad.be/article/detail.aspx?articleid=G47U9C3N

Nachtergaele (the masseur) said his wattages are extraordinary.

Rujano have the physical abilities to pull this off, no doubt. It's his mind-set however, which sometimes leaves me a bit skeptical!

Still Rujano in 2009 Vuelta Colombia condition for example, is a handful for any climber in the world. His ascents on Alto de Letras - El Escobero and Alto de Minas where down right phenomenal. Best I've seen him in years, including last year's display at the Giro.

I think he will at least finish on the podium; a three minute deficit should not matter much when we enter the really high passes in a few days! I just hope S. Henao will be there on the final podium with him as well. But that's another conversation i guess.

He needs to put lot of time on others in the mountains, cause in ITT he'll lose 2 minutes easily. Now hes 2 minutes down. So it makes 4 minutes at least and probably more, as he will lose more than 2 minutes in ITT for sure. I dont believe hes capable to do that. Moreover he looks somewhat fragile, its mechanical here, illness there...like Schleckett for instance.

2 minutes to who? Basso? Scarponi? Purito? Pozzovivo? Fränk? Nieve? He's at least equal to all of those, and better than most. Kreuziger? Contrary to the myth, he's not a good time-trialist on this kind of distance and course. Hesjedal? Well he might be better on paper, but not by much, not enough for it to be a factor. Tiralongo? Yeah right. Gadret? Haha.

The only people he could conceivably lose some serious time to are Pinotti, Vande Velde, Bruseghin, De Gendt, even Intxausti, and none of them are particularly likely to be actual contenders (Beñat could surprise, but I don't see him above 6th or so in the final GC, and he's not *that* good of a time-trialist either).

If Rujano climbs at last year's level, there's no way he'll lose the Giro in the ITT. The question for me is whether he's at that level. Personally I'd be surprised if there was more than a 1 minute or 1 minute and a half gap between the vast majority of contenders. Well Nieve could easily lose 2 or 3 minutes, I'll give you that.

Rujano against all odds:

"Esperemos el sábado ... insisto en que este tiempo (3:05") no me hace daño, queda mucho por definir y estoy en buenas condiciones"

"Hopefully on Saturday ... I insist that this time (3:05") does not hurt me, much remains to be defined and I am in good condition"
