The lad has won enough now to deserve his own thread. I am a fan after his principled stand regarding teams (and their finance). Now I'm a fan because I have another reason to follow him (CQ). An impressive win today. I hope he progresses from last year. Could be a player in the cobbled classics.

Young rider with a more old school development curve. We've become so used to seeing riders explode onto the scene rather immediately that for a while it almost seemed like Wærenskjold was one of those typical Scandinavian youngsters who excelled as a junior but never amounted to much as a pro.

But he's really come along nicely in the last couple of years. He has a lot of the same characteristics as Hushovd, and can probably become a really good classics rider, maybe already this year.

If you ask a Norwegian, then they might say that this thread should be called Søren Wærenskjold: The Hippo from Mandal. However the thread creator has the final say and should never ever succumb to peer pressure.

He should be stronger and more confident this season, so there could be great things in store for him. Maybe he'll even snap up a nice GC placing in Saudi Arabia this week.

Clearly missed opportunity with the thread title her. So sad. Poor Hippo.

Yep, after his junior years i thought he disappeared from the face of the earth for a while. I knew him as a TT'er, then suddenly he started winning sprints.

The comparison to Hushovd is fairly appropriate I think. Hushovd came out winning more from the start though and won his U-23 ITT title at age 20 where Wärenskjold won his at 22. But they will likely be good at the same type of races to some extent at least. Hushovd at his best could actually climb a little which is a slight edge over Wärenskjold I think.

In a way I would probably classify Wärenskjold as a midpoint between Hushovd and Magnus Bäckstedt. Can't wait to see him in Paris - Roubaix every year for the next decade or so.

Really interesting rider indeed. I was actually thinking about making a thread about win but @armchairclimber was faster.

He first caught my eye when he won the TT and got third in the RR at Wollongong U23 worlds. Very good versatile sprinter and time trialist too. Definitely seems to have what it takes to win a stage in a Grand Tour as he can also climb well over short hills like he showed in the Tour of Belgium last year.

The biggest question mark for me is how good Wærenskjold turn out to be in the classics because he has a perfect built for Roubaix and could challenge in a Ghent Wevelgem too.

Søren, I am so sorry. A bit like being awarded the Manager of the Month trophy .... which usually guarantees a huge slump in fortunes.

personally, I was thinking "The Norse God" .,.. but after today, perhaps not. Hopefully he's back to winning... or contesting the sprint at least, tomorrow.

Another TT win in Belgium for the Hippo! Looking good going into the Tour, hopefully he will get some more chances to sprint himself this year, even if Kristoff has also shown good form.

Switched back to Gran Camino and Uno-X looks excellent at that race also.
Post race Soren looked fresh and even after his sprint appeared to be recovered in a couple of minutes!!!Amazing win

What is immoral about Uno-X? I'd expect that their externalities are fully taxed.
oil and gas – are by far the largest contributor to the global climate changes.
I have no problem he ridning for Uno X, but don't act like you have higher morale than others.
